Thread: NEW COMPARISON FLYER! Spread these to win!

NEW COMPARISON FLYER! Spread these to win!

I just finished up a new version on the National Comparison Sheet to make it much more concise and readable.

    Link: http://www.scribd.com/doc/85115598/Comparison
Edit: Amended version that includes the issue of abortion: http://www.scribd.com/doc/85497866/Comparison-Amended

A lot of people are feeling powerless and losing enthusiasm, but we can't give up now. All of us individually can make an impact! Use this as a tool to help do that.

Print these at home and hand them out in your area. If you'd like to distribute a lot of them, consider http://www.nextdayflyers.com/flyer-p...x11-flyers.php or http://www.uprinting.com/business-flyers-printing.html for low priced bulk printing.

If you have friends, link them to the Scribd page. Lets make this go viral.

We're at a crucial time. The media is ignoring us more than ever, which means we're gonna have to work even harder to get the message out. We need to start getting these flyers out and show people that Ron Paul is the only true conservative in the race! Lets get out there and win the information war!

+1 rep. I will be using a bunch of these!

I've found several errors. I will be proofing this tonight and responding here. Please consider a once-over before releasing these.

In the VS Obama rasmussen poll, it should include net % favorable. So +2% for Paul.

Because comparing 45% Romney to 43% Paul looks bad, even though it is better for Paul.

It should also specify that it is a nationwide poll.

@Meillisa: No problem, let me what you find and i'll get to work on it.

    @leetlamer: Fair point

    @KMX, Keef: awesome

@PolicyReader: haven't had time to read through that, but it looks like a very good thread.

My only gripe with these is Ron should be first, not 2nd, in the order. Really throws the entire thing off imo...
    It's just an opinion... man...

Revised the polling section based on leetlamer's comment.

Yes. I would put the +/- directly under the percentages of each candidate. Green for positive. Red for negative.
If Rand does not win the Republican nomination, he should buck the controlled two party system and run as an Independent for President in 2016 and give Americans a real option to vote for.

We are all born libertarians then something goes really wrong. Despite this truth, most people are still libertarians yet not know it.

You made it worse IMO and more confusing.

Don't show Obama up by 10 over Gingrich. Show Gingrich down by 10. Same for Santorum's number.

You'll probably need to download the pdf.

I went left to right, top to bottom, and read through it. A lot of these are just suggestions, but there are a few grammatical errors peppered throughout the document.

    1. I’m not sure why some things are bolded and some are not. Consider that you have bolded two other candidates’ names, which is generally a marketing no-no. You should also use the same format. “Supported the $700 billion bank bailout” would be more consistent than “Romney supported the $700 billion bailout.” You may also want to cite where he said it was the right thing to do with a little footnote.

    2. You may want to, for the sake of appearance, change “morally wrong” to “immoral” so that you can fit “and unconstitutional.” on one line. “Unconstitutional” loses some of its impact when it is split like this. On such a small comparison sheet, you want to avoid splitting words like this as much as possible.

    3. Gingrich’s “Bailouts” section does not have a period at the end. You have also put “stimulus” in quotation marks, but did not do so anywhere else. You may want to put the Savings & Loan sentence at the end, because you are talking about the present, then the past, but then hop to the present again with no real clue to the reader. It sort of reads like Gingrich pushed for a stimulus related to the S&L crisis to benefit his clients. You may want to make “Savings & Loans” into “the Savings & Loan industry” in order to put the “$27 billion” on one line and to be a bit more specific. “Pushed to add…” could stand to be a complete sentence if that is the style you are going with.

    4. You have used complete sentences throughout the “Bailouts” line, but Santorum’s second sentence is a fragment. An alternative might read “Santorum said he would have opposed the bank bailout. However, he voted for the Emergency Steel Loan Guarantee Program, considered a bailout of the Steel Industry.” It’s up to you if you’d like to get that specific. This could also backfire in some states that actually think the bailouts helped.

    5. Unless you are going to note that “the Fed” is short for “the Federal Reserve,” you may want to write it out. The bolding and broken words here can be avoided altogether. I would change “housing bubble crash” to “housing bubble” or “housing crisis” if you’d like to be melodramatic. You may want to replace “the crash of 1929” with “the stock market crash of 1929.” Yes, I’m serious. Some people will not know what you are talking about.

    6. Consider “that the Federal Reserve gave out” rather than “the Fed gave out.”

    7. I know someone’s going to come along and smack me, but I would take out the commas and the line “that benefited Goldman Sachs.” To the average person reading this, it won’t make an impact. You also used the “benefit” angle on Gingrich’s stance regarding the Bailouts above. Instead of “Gingrich went against his own party” consider “This put Gingrich at odds with his own party” although space may not allow for this.

    8. You went with “ditto” here? I would dig up something on Santorum and the Federal Reserve. The blank space makes him look almost saintly. In June of 2011, Senator Santorum appeared on the Glenn Beck show and stated that he supported returning the Federal Reserve to one purpose - controlling inflation. There has to be more there than “he agrees with Romney.”

    9. Ron’s section on Gun Rights starts with “The GOA” but the organization is “Gun Owners of America.” “The” does not belong there. “Paul he has been” should be “Paul has been.”

    10. “Antigun” is not a word. The most common spelling is “Anti-gun.” The first sentence is a bit confusing. Consider “Supported several anti-gun measures including the infamous Lautenberg gun ban and ‘safe zone’ laws.”

    11. Consider changing “Aggressively promoted policies that were contributing to the bad assets on the books of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.” to “Promoted policies that led to bad debt on Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s balance sheets.”

    12. “He then” could be “Romney.” Be careful, though; this sentence almost makes him sound like he cares about the poor!

    13. “government backed” should be “government-backed.”

    14. “housing” and “warnings” don’t really need to be split.

    15. “His warnings went unheeded and were considered fringe ideas – every expert now agrees that Paul was correct.” could be “His warnings went unheeded, but experts now agree that Ron Paul was correct.”

    16. “Lobbying Operations” should be “lobbying operations,” unless it is actually the full name of the specific company/division/department. You should also bold either both words or neither. You can remove “his” entirely. If you are going to use “between” you should say “2000 and 2008” or remove “between” entirely, but that would look awkward in the space. There should be a comma after “ended.”

    17. No one cares about this, but it’s actually “USA PATRIOT Act.” I hate that we no longer spell it out for people  I guess this isn’t really the place to do that, either. There is an unexplainable “v” at the end of this section.

    18. “condemned” being split removes some of its potency as a descriptor. Consider changing “our Bill of Rights” to “our Constitutional rights” or “our rights.” Consider changing “Says that you can still…” to “Insists that our nation can…” in order to be more inclusive.

    19. Consider leading off with Ron bringing our troops home from undeclared wars. “Nation-building” may alienate some readers.

    20. Maybe it’s my eyes, but at the “Contributions” line, the font suddenly got smaller.

    21. “Citigroup, Bank of America,” should be “Citigroup, and Bank of America.” It ends the list.

    22. “7x” should definitely be “seven times” and bolded.

    23. “Poet LLC, First Fiscal Fund.” should be “Poet LLC, and First Fiscal Fund.” I would remove the “His largest single contributor to date” line and just put “Casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson has contributed over $10 million to his campaign though his Super PAC.”

    24. “Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Achristavest.” should be “Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Achristavest.” You should also change “Pac” to “PAC” in this case.

    25. I would go as far as to consider some kind of red circle around that “Paul 43%” and change the tab title from “VS OBAMA” to “ELECTIBILITY”

    26. (Really 25A … wow okay you changed this WHILE I was proofing… Um it doesn’t make any sense like this at all. I would have left it how it was. Romney having 45% against Obama is a given; he is the frontrunner. What it showed before was that Ron Paul was pretty much right there with him, and miles ahead of Santorum and Gingrich. Now it is confusing.)

    27. Your first Romney point in “Additional Notes” is missing a bullet. You could change “which became” to “providing” and wind up with enough space to keep “blueprint” on one line. There is a period missing at the end of “Now claims to be against it.” This is also a sentence fragment. There is a period missing at the end of the last Romney point. You may also want to say where it was he raised taxes and fees.

    28. You may want to change “bureaucracies” to “agencies” so it fits on one line.

    29. You may want to add “proposal” to the end of Gingrich’s first point. The second point might look smoother as “Had 84 ethics charges brought against him while serving as Speaker of the House, and was fined $300,000 as a result.” <- Note: this is actually not a fact. Newt was not “fined” in the traditional sense, but asked to reimburse the Committee for some of the costs. He was, however, reprimanded. It just doesn’t sound as harsh to point out he was reprimanded.

    30. Under Newt, you call it a “carbon trading scheme” but under Mitt you call it a “carbon tax scheme.” Your language should probably be consistent on that point.

    31. “adding a $16 trillion unfunded liability” should technically be “adding $16 trillion in unfunded liability” or even “liabilities” if you are referring to multiple programs leaving multiple burdens.

    32. Spell out “five” here, which will bump your “increasing” to the next line, which will put $3.5 trillion all on one line.

Not to be a contrarian to Melissa's helpful comments which would improve the grammar...I'm wondering if however brevity might be more important. Readers are lazy. The more efficient you can be with your verbiage probably the better...you don't want a novel that readers just gloss over and ignore.

Most of my suggestions were to make it shorter lol but this is about as brief as a comparison sheet should be, imo. This is different from palm cards, signs, bumper stickers, and other media that are meant to make an explosive impact.

  27. #24
I made most of the changes you specified, Melissa, although I left some things the same out of style. I really appreciate you taking the time to do such a thorough proofread, thanks again!
