    If you can find a spot where it is closer than about 30 feet (33 feet I think is the exact number) you can use a surface pump (hand powered or motor driven) to draw it up. If it is deeper than that, you have to have an electric pump submerged in the well to push the water up. That means you have to have a source of electricity, and a fair amount of it.

    My long term food storage is hay in the barn and heirloom vegetables. Not an ideal plan for lazy MF's.

    Maybe you are thinking of the maximum head for pulling water from above vs pushing water from below? (cavitation issues)
