Excellent post, donnay! And my hat goes off to the engineer who performed this experiment. I wish I could buy him a beer -- or more like a case. THIS is the kind of ingenuity we need in our struggle against totalitarianism.

With so many engineers and scientists doing everything in their power to find new technologies to destroy our privacy and liberties, I think engineers/scientists who care about freedom have a special duty to try to look for countermeasures. The simpler, the better.

Couldn't they fix this just by doing two scans? The first one does front/back, the person rotates 90 degrees, and then scan again to get the sides?

    :/
The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

Yes. But what he has demonstrated is something broader: countermeasures are available for most of these surveillance technologies. People just need to do their research and employ creative thinking. This won't substitute for living in a free society, but it can at least help freedom-lovers exist in the midst of a totalitarian state while we wait for the sheep to wake up.

Getting back to the scanners, one bomber in a Muslim country attempted an assassination by hiding explosives in his rectum. He failed to kill his target, but he DID evade security screening prior to that. This incident alone proves that the scanners are worthless -- they cannot detect anything hidden in a body cavity.
