Amash looks like he's earning the mantle of Paul's successor. Paul Broun looks promising too, but I don't know much about him. His donor list shows zero banks and zero lobbyists which is a great sign.
“If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

I don't think anyone earns the mantle of 'Paul's successor'. But Amash is pretty good on civil liberties. I still don't understand why he voted for the procedural vote which was close, and let the Patriot Act extension be passed by a smaller number of votes, but he was new. My mind is open that he might have been figuring out which votes are important. But he doesn't have the economics piece, and it will take a long time before someone earns the same level of trust-based-on-consistent record.

Having said that, Amash definitely seems to be one of the best we have.

edit, note that Amash's district is being redistricted and we REALLY NEED to support him.

Forgive me for not knowing too much about this bill, but on looking at the summary, couldn't this make protests or demonstrations on federal gov't grounds illegal?

Yes. Or 'near' a federal official. So much for petitioning your representatives.\

Between this vote and the Bernanke and Clinton hearings yesterday, I'm kinda hoping one of those 'why is he wasting time in DC not on the campaign trail!!' people join this thread....

"knowingly, and with the intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions, obstructs or impedes ingress or egress to or from any restricted building or grounds; or"

That is kind of what I am getting from it

would trying to change a vote by showing unpopularity of a bill be 'impeding the orderly conduct of Government business'?

Ofc. How can our precious lawmakers lambaste us with more rules and laws if we are screaming in their ears?
