You are in need of my RevolutionaryWar rant Bro.
The early patriots were fighting against their own government and the most powerful military in the world at the time. They had no precident of living without a King. They had no long line of heroic exploits like we do to encourage them. They had no idea what form of government they would have IF they managed to win. Of all our population only about 1/3 of them fought and won the Revolution. The rest mirrored our current demographic where some were apathetic, some were stupid and some were loyalists (establishment) and those comprised the other 3/2. So not only were we fighting against our own government, the most powerful military in the world but many of us were fighting against our own neighbors.
NO ONE thought they had a chance to win. All they knew was "give me liberty or give me death". They marched on without shoes in the snow leaving bloody footprints behind them.
Thomas Paine authored Common Sense an illegal document that he could have been literally hung for. He too railed against the media. This is what he said. (I have it memorized)
"There is something exceedingly ridiculous in the composition of Monarchy (establishment Democrats and Republicans). It first excludes the man from the means of information and then empowers him to act in cases where the highest judgement is required" (to vote for the most powerful man in the world)
After writing Common Sense which pretty much started the Revolution he marched with General Washington through the bloody snow as he was drafting "The Crisis".
Are you a "summer patriot" friend?
