Without even reading the article I will offer my answer.
Because nobody likes to believe that what they do is irrelevant. Without meaning. Nothing to be proud of. Or worse, darn right criminal.

In America today there remains two factions.
The Federalist and the Anti-Federalist.
Neither of the two dominating political parties belong to the latter.
You can't be one and the other..
