The Rick Williams campaign is all about substance. Here’s where Rick stands on the issues that face our nation in 2012 and beyond.
END THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM
America can never be a free and prosperous nation again until the Fed is shuttered up and its Treasury bill holdings defaulted. The Fed acquired its holdings with money created out of thin air; it gave no legal consideration in acquiring over $2 trillion in Treasury debt. Get rid of it.
REDUCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET BY $1 TRILLION IN THE FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE
Cutting the federal budget by a trillion dollars in a single year is a Ron Paul proposal from his 2012 presidential campaign; and it sounds about right to Rick Williams. While we’re at it, let’s close down five cabinet departments: Education; Energy; Housing and Urban Development; Commerce; and Interior. A bunch of bureaucrats– they won’t be missed.
A NON–INTERVENTIONIST FOREIGN POLICY
We’ve spent more than $4 trillion in overseas wars and military operations over the past ten years. All of this money has been added to the national debt, so . . . was it worth it?
NO NEW WARS UNLESS DECLARED BY CONGRESS
This is what the Constitution expressly requires, and Rick Williams will insist that this core provision be obeyed. Let’s tell Congress to start following its oath of office, for a change (“support and defend the Constitution . . .”).
END OUR ISOLATIONIST FOREIGN POLICY
Our modern day foreign policy of preemptive war, sanctions, indiscriminate bombing, and disrespect for sovereign national borders has isolated our country– to no good purpose. Free trade; diplomatic relations; the “golden rule”– these are the things which bring peace and prosperity for the American people. Strong national defense– of course; isolating America– no thanks.
CIVIL LIBERTIES AT HOME
Our civil liberties are the single most important legacy of the founders. Shall we cast them aside for the illusion of government–sponsored “security?” Not if Rick Williams is elected to the Senate we won’t. Repeal the misnamed Patriot Act; and the insane NDAA with its grant of executive power to detain or kill American citizens without legal counsel or trial. A good and just nation has no need for police state measures; they make us weak, not strong..
SOCIAL ISSUES
Our politicians in Washington D.C. love to divide us with issues like abortion, gay marriage and the like. But in fact, such things are none of their business. The federal government has no legitimate role in issuing edicts about what a marriage is, or when life begins, and these matters are properly left for the states to resolve. Tenth Amendment, anyone?
REBUILDING THE CALIFORNIA ECONOMY
The best thing our federal government could do to help the once–great state of California is get out of the way. Here’s a first step: the federal government is presently a squatter on more than 40% of California land. The founders never had in mind that the national government would be a land owner– indeed, the opposite is true; the founders were quite clear that the government should dispose of any major landholdings as quickly as possible. The federal land holdings in California (and other western states) should be sold to private parties and put to productive use immediately. Think of the economic benefit for California! Agriculture; natural resource development; tourism; recreation; new homes and residents– the economy of California would recover in a heartbeat if the dead hand of government was removed from the lands of our state. Want to see California prosper again? Kick the federal government out– and watch our state grow!
FREEDOM
Ron Paul says it best: “FREEDOM IS POPULAR!” The era of giant governments, centralized banks, and crony capitalism is over– so let’s give freedom a try (for a change).
Social Security And Medicare
These programs are entirely unsustainable (not to mention unconstitutional), but social security and medicare benefits to existing recipients are the last things we should be looking to cut. In a world of reduced government resources, people who are dependent on social security and medicare will need to be protected while the programs are being phased out over the years to come. Better to cut back on our wars abroad than abandon our seniors here at home.
The Vision Of The Founders
Want to know where Rick Williams will get his core ideas and inspiration as a United States Senator? Look to the writings of the founders– these men who built the first country ever conceived in liberty. Were the founders perfect? Of course not; far from it; but the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution are pretty good places to start if you want to find a structuring model for a free society as it ought to be. Rick will choose the founders over our “modern” political class any day.
IMMIGRATION
The contentious issues involving legal and illegal immigration are actually quite simple to resolve if we look to rule of law as our guideline. We should protect our border; send home all immigrants who are illegally in this country; and welcome legal immigrants under programs which offer value to the American people as a whole. Once we create a renewed entrepreneurial spirit in this country by ending the Federal Reserve and utilizing sound money, a fresh America as the Great Shining City on the Hill will quickly emerge. Value–add immigrant investors and skilled workers will want to be part of it.
