IEAE pronounces Iran nuclear talks a "failure" while Iran does air defense drills

    Iraq, Part II?

I fully expect the media to spin this "failure" for all it's worth, including in tonight's debate. From The Guardian:

Iran nuclear talks a failure, says IAEA

The UN nuclear agency has declared its latest inspection visit to Iran a failure, with the regime blocking access to a key site suspected of hosting covert nuclear weapon research and no agreement reached on how to resolve other unanswered questions.

The statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency was issued shortly after an Iranian general warned of a pre-emptive strike against any nation that threatens Iran.

"We engaged in a constructive spirit but no agreement was reached," the statement quoted IAEA chief Yukiya Amano as saying.

The communique said that Iran did not grant requests by the IAEA mission to visit Parchin, a military site thought to be used for explosives testing related to triggering a nuclear weapon. Amano called this decision "disappointing". No agreement was reached on how to begin "clarification of unresolved issues in connection with Iran's nuclear programme, particularly those relating to possible military dimensions", the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Iran army just started a 4 day air defense exercise in a 190,000 square kilometer area in southern Iran:

Iran army holding air defense drills near Persian Gulf

Iran’s Army is holding major defensive military drills across a massive area in southern Iran aimed at enhancing the Islamic Republic’s air defense capabilities near the strategic Persian Gulf region.

Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base started the four-day exercises codenamed Tharallah on Monday within an area of 190,000 square kilometers in southern Iran, with the key objective of boosting the country’s air defense near the Persian Gulf and the nation’s Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Is it just me, or is this like the international community throwing a fit because the US wouldn't allow U.N. inspectors into Area 51? The report itself says they aren't allowed access to certain military installations. I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't seem so shocking to me at all.

Havent Israel refused access to some of their facilities?

As far as I know, without really looking into it, Israel has not signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and does not allow inspectors into their country at all.

Their asking for access to the site is a violation of the NPT. It has nothing to do with diversion of nuclear material. Nuclear weapons "research" is not covered by NPT, and they are violating the treaty by trying to broaden it to that scale. "Research" could mean anything. Here's some of the "research" materials they're claiming Iran is using to get nukes.

high speed electronic switches and spark gaps (useful for triggering and firing detonators); high speed cameras (useful in experimental diagnostics); neutron sources (useful for calibrating neutron measuring equipment); radiation detection and measuring equipment (useful in a nuclear material production environment); and training courses on topics relevant to nuclear explosives development (such as neutron cross section calculations and shock wave interactions/hydrodynamics).

High speed switches? High speed cameras? Training courses? Is this what IAEA's fishing expidition is going to look for? Get off it. Look for evidence of diversion of fissile materials, because that's all they have the right to do.

It's all a load of crap, basically war mongering, looking for an excuse to attack Iran.

Besides, did they ever find WMD in Iraq? ^^this^^

We're being governed ruled by a geriatric Alzheimer patient/puppet whose strings are being pulled by an elitist oligarchy who believe they can manage the world... imagine the utter maniacal, sociopathic hubris!

If we don't want war with Iran, we should simply not START a war.

By condemning them and posing sanctions, it means they're ALLOWED to strike! That is very, very, VERY dangerous!
