Thread: What happened in Rhode Island?

    What happened in Rhode Island?

Unless I'm mistaken, Rhode Island closed their doors for signatures as of yesterday.

Unfortunately, unless they have new signatures they haven't validated yet, that means we failed to get on the ballot.
Of course, so did Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Barack Obama.
Mitt Romney barely even made it himself.

These numbers are live from the Rhode Island SOS' office, as of 4:00 AM today.

    MARK CALLAHAN Republican No 1000
MICHAEL DENAME Republican Void No 1000
JOHN ALBERT DUMMETT JR Republican Void No 1000
NEWT GINGRICH Republican No 1000 898
BARACK OBAMA Democrat No 1000 820
RON PAUL Republican No 1000 106
RICK PERRY Republican No 1000 8
BUDDY ROEMER Republican No 1000 96
MITT ROMNEY Republican No 1000 1095 Yes Yes
RICK SANTORUM Republican No 1000 102

Before we all panic though, as I said, I don't know if they have more signatures and the campaign did say they had this covered, so let's hope.

Doug Wead said that they were 100% on top of ballot requirements a few days ago.

Let's hope they didn't drop the ball.

Are signatures the only way to get on the RI ballot? Also, how many delegates?

  7. #6
I think RI is in the upper teens in number of delegates... 17 maybe?

We can't miss getting on the ballot in a state where it only requires 1,000 signatures, right?

If it were just choosing odds between 'Paul's campaign dropped the ball' and 'site is not fully up to date', I'd say 10% chance of the former and 90% chance of the latter. But actually we're choosing between '*everybody* (including Obama) dropped the ball' and 'site is not up to date', which makes the latter more like 99.99% likely. So, relaax.

The site also has .gov in it. What did you expect?

We submitted just over 1700 signatures in the RI meetup alone. Don't worry about this guys.

I will take you up on your offer not to worry, but do you have any idea where it will be "official" that we got the needed signatures?

Maybe you are looking at verified signatures...they audit them.
    No one reads signatures.

So, after I posted this, I dug around a little bit and came across a news article from on my phone saying that Romney was the first one to make it on the ballot, surpassing Paul, Roemer, Obama, Santorum, and Gingrich.
Significance being he was the first to make it and not the only, which makes me think they're updating that list daily.
When you figure every campaign had under 150 at the beginning of the week, there was probably a massive paperwork surge of signatures at the SOS' office at the last minute and now they need to go through the process of checking them.

i emailed them and got this response...
Thank you for contacting Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis' office.

Currently, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Barack Obama have qualified. Gingrich and Obama's number will show up starting tomorrow morning, they were certified today. The local municipalities have until Feb. 15 to get us the nomination papers to certify. Any questions, please let me know. Thanks.

Offically, no Santorum on this ballot.
    Only Paul, Romney, Gingrich.

I think Santorum has still chance to get on ballot. I think they are still verifying received signatures (14th internal deadline??). But I hope he does not.
