If anybody there's hungry, it's their own personal choice. A family of four can expect $500 per month on food stamps. My family has 4 people and we definitely don't spend over $500 a month on food. I'm a vegan but the rest of my family isn't. If you choose to eat hamburger instead of rice & beans that's your choice. Cut out meat, cut out dairy and you're going to be spending $75 per month max per person on food. If you really had to struggle that amount would be $20 per month per person.
The problem is that the meat & dairy industries have lobbied government to redefine what it means to eat a healthy diet.
I'm not exaggerating on the price of food. Check out this:

It's from 2001, but the prices haven't changed much. For instance the last time I checked bulk white rice is still about $.20 per pound. I eat brown rice which is about $.50 per pound in bulk.
Go down the list and see how when you start buying meat & dairy things get expensive. This is government policy mind you. Go to places where they have food subsidies and you'll find people eating meat and dairy. Places where they don't they tend to be vegan. It's a special interest using government policy for their own benefit. The natural place for humans to be on the food chain with regard to economics and the environment is vegan.
I have no problem with people eating meat and dairy. Go ahead, but don't make me pay for other people to do it.
