Indiana requires all presidential candidates to submit 500 certified voter signatures from each of the nine congressional districts so the candidate's name may appear on the ballots.
We need to help Ron Paul with ballot access by asking people to sign the Petition Form for Presidential Primary Ballot Placement, aka CAN-8. It's easy!
Only registered voter signatures count. So ask the person if they are a register voter. If they are, you might then say, "Indiana requires all presidential candidates to collect signatures so their name can appear on the ballot. Signing this form is not an endorsement for any candidate, it simply supports democracy."
Printable CAN-8 forms are s available from Indiana's Secretary of State site and they are available from any County Court House's Voter Registration Office and some of the GOP offices.
Here's that form, download and print both sides: http://www.in.gov/sos/elections/file...evision%29.pdf
On the front side you need to write in Ron Paul in the middle of the box for Candidate Name. Check the little box for Republican Party. Write Texas in the middle of the box that says State where candidate resides. And you will need to write in the name of the county.
The county is important as that is where the signatures are verified. Once the voter if ready to sign, ask them what county they live in and make sure they sign the CAN form with the corresponding county.
No P.O. Boxes. Tell the person to use their street address. (That is their voter registration address.) Ask them to take their time and write legibly (using two lines if necessary). Give it a quick skim when they are done. If you can't read their information, the clerk verifying it can't either and therefore it will not count. Make corrections if you need to.
Hopefully you will do this will all your friends and family as well as collecting in public places. (Post Office, school events, Court House, etc) You should ask permission to collect at private places like stores and restaurants. Many will let you stand in their vestibule.
Next the signatures need to be certified. The certification period has started and will continue through noon Jan. 31.
After you have collected some signatures and no later then Friday, Jan. 27th, take All the signatures you have to the corresponding county court house voter registration office. Most clerks will have you drop them off with your contact information and tell you when they should be ready for pick up. Make sure they know You are the one that will pick them up and make sure you do pick them up! We are still waiting to hear from the official campaign for how they then want them collected. That next stage is a wider window. We are fine.
Do that and if you are so inclined Collect More the weekend of the 28th and 29th! And get those to the court house before noon on Tuesday Jan. 31 for the same process. We can't have too many!
