When I was in Iraq, the officers and NCO's in my company volunteered to take up the guard positions we had on Christmas Day, and we also got to have a Christmas dinner. It was nice to have a "day off (lol)." The last thing I would want would be for some self-important, pompous jackass to ruin it by dragging me into some big clusterfunk, all under the premise that His mere presence would somehow please me due to his lordly granduer. I think I can speak for most troops by asking that he stays home. Now, high-ranking officers on the other hand would love it. Absolutely love it...all while the real soldiers grumble of course.

To sum up, that would be worse than a change of command ceremony. Ugh!!!

I cant wait till 2013 when Ron Paul spends Christmas with the troops.... in America.

I thought it was obnoxious when we got VIP visits, it was just a hassle for us and a photo op for them. Aside from the guy doing the fingers crossed to show duress with Hilary Clinton, I think that these things are totally worthless.

Looks like there was no surprise visit and Obama visited Hawaii instead at cost of few million dollars to tax payers.
