George Bush Blocked Israeli Air Strike Against Iranian Nuclear Facilities

Israel gave serious thought this spring to launching a military strike on Iran's nuclear sites but was told by President George W Bush that he would not support it and did not expect to revise that view for the rest of his presidency, senior European diplomatic sources have told the Guardian.

Bush's decision to refuse to offer any support for a strike on Iran appeared to be based on two factors, the sources said. One was US concern over Iran's likely retaliation, which would probably include a wave of attacks on US military and other personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as on shipping in the Persian Gulf.

Interesting, so more proof that Israel is being held hostage by the US. This is another reason why Dr. Paul should be elected. Ron Paul will loosen the foreign aid and state department shackles of the USA. The nation state of Israel behind the scenes should be an ally
not a basement step child. The Obama Presidency is ham stringing Israel national security and defense as well as the second term of
the former Bush Administration. Loosen the shackles and let Israel defend itself and stop interfering in an ally's internal affairs.

If that's true then that's one thing Bush did right. Why is this even in grassroots central?

Clint4liberty, you want to offer support for a strike on Iran? You go ahead. Don't drag anybody else into it.

It seems Bush didn't 'block' anything, he just told Israel that it would be on its own and they backed off. And if that's true, shockingly to say he DID do exactly the right thing.

Exactly. I find this hard to believe considering it's Bush, but that's another issue.

Can't we use this? Christ, even GEORGE FRIGGIN W. BUSH did the same thing Ron would if Israel said they wanted to attack Iran.

I couldn't stand Bush, and if the other guys running against RP are trying to make Bush seem better in retrospect, I think it's working on me.

No not at all. To paraphrase and reverse a statement from last night's Fox debate, Ron Paul is to the right of George W Bush when it comes to dealing with Israel. Ron would have not interfered and let them attack.

But please note that Ron stated that they would have to suffer the consequences, implying that we would not go put our sons to clean up the mess and be in harm's way.

Bush actually ran for his first term on a platform of non-intervention.

^ I've seen this youtube probably three different times. However instead of hearing W. I continue to hear goofy music.

Exactly, I realize that Paul's campaign is pitching this story that the U.S. has been holding Israel back as an attempt to convince these bizarre pro-Israeli fanatic Republicans to vote for him but much of these claims are simply untrue. The U.S. has zero control over what Israel does and when Israel does something the U.S. absolutely doesn't like and condemns such as the illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank, Israel says "Screw you" to America and continues to increase the settlements while our foreign aid to Israel keeps right on coming due to AIPAC's control over our congressmen. There's no evidence that America denies any foreign aid to Israel based on Israeli policies.

Bush didn't interfere, he simply told Israel that America wouldn't support a bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities. He didn't tell Israel that they couldn't do it themselves.
