US to lower flag to end Iraq war

The US flag is to be lowered in Baghdad, formally marking the end of US military operations in Iraq after nearly nine years of war.

Most of the 5,500 remaining soldiers have now left Iraq, with security in the hands of the Iraqi authorities.

President Barack Obama, who came to office pledging to bring troops home, said the US left behind a "sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq".

As good as this is, i think it will have a postive effect for obama, which wont help Ron

As Ron has pointed out, we're leaving in Iraq some 15,000 contractors and security personnel (most with ties to the U.S. government), a new embassy that will be bigger than the Vatican, and some permanent bases that we will continue to man (even if not by combat toops, per se). This is a withdrawal that is not the withdrawal Obama is trying to hype.
