Didn't know he was a libertarian, cool..

He is libertarian- Randian- but he's not really political at all. And he's also incredibly busy running Wikia.com, the Wikimedia Foundation and taking care of kiddos. He doesn't state-hop when he travels, or even country-hop. He continent-hops. I showed him the Draft Jimmy page at Facebook when it first came out and he just laughed. He was flattered though.

Based on that I'm guessing your fairly close to Jimmy? Please let us know if there is anything the grassroots can do to help sway his mind

From all the political videos and articles out there from him, he must be at least fairly political. Heck, the guy has admitted to thinking about running for Senate. The fact that he hasn't dismissed the idea outright is a positive sign.

Reason did a writeup on Jimmy Wales back in '07. I've only read the third page—which I found quite compelling, given that it covers some of his political views—but the rest of it looks like a good read.

I can't divulge much at this point, but we have been in direct contact with Jimmy, and the official word is that he's curious about it but needs to see that he would have the support to win. PLEASE join our FB group and spread the link to all your liberty minded and Republican friends and family! We need to get as many supporters behind this as we can, as soon as possible! Thanks guys!!

I personally need to know more about him and his positions before pledging any support.

Wales will oppose efforts to regulate the internet. That's good enough for me.

I think he also took a course in Austrian Economics at Mises. Mark Thornton was his professor.

It was founded by Jimmy Wales, a man who picked up his Hayekianism from his professor Mark Thornton and went on to apply the idea of spontaneous order to changing the world.

Just based on those two sources alone, it looks like ideologically Wales is at least somewhere between Mike Lee and Rand Paul. (And who knows? Possibly even more libertarian than Rand.) Fiscal libertarian of the Austrian variety, social federalist, and a non-neoconservative (possibly even a full noninterventionist) on foreign policy. Good enough for me.

i don't think wales has an intellectual foundation in liberty as solid as Rand's. but he is still better than Nelson, by far.

Doesn't look like he's ever donated to or publically endorsed any candidate before. His views are certainly well aligned with Ron Paul.

LOL! The guy that even has open pederasts on his wikipedia team? The guy that makes sure that every not-power-friendly entry is deleted?

Actually, my first reaction to anyone who sets themselves up as the guy to 'sort them out', is 'no thanks.' Too much ego is too easily used to manipulate politicians in DC. Personally, I think McCain isn't corrupt as in bought and sold for money, he goes where his ego leads him. But it amounts to the same thing.

As a longtime Wikipedia editor, I really beg to differ that Wikipedia is run in a "tyrannical fashion". If anything, it's run in the exact opposite manner of tyranny.

To all that other stuff, I have a single response:
    So?

You are at the lower part of the hierarchy of the highly compartimentalized power pyramid. The fact that you are a wikiPEDO editor means nothing.

I see what you're saying but ego isn't necessarily a bad thing if it's tied down by principle (for example Peter Schiff isn't the most humble guy in the world but he still would make a great U.S. Senator).
