Thread: There are no trolls here

Default There are no trolls here

In many forums there are often individuals who decry others as "troll" and the like. While this may be mildly entertaining and accurate, there are often problems with this tactic to maintaining good community decorum.

My personal philosophy is that there are no trolls, there is just troll behavior. Claiming someone to be a troll assumes you understand the intent of the poster, in our case here, if they are truly a supporter of Dr. Paul or not.

Here at RPFs.com, in this campaign of freedom and peace we do not want to assign people into groups such as if they really support Dr. Paul or not or if they are a troll or not. However, if there is disruptive behavior it should be dealt with. It doesn't manner if the people truly support Dr. Paul or not- we can never really know that but we can study and understand how individuals deceptively engage in troll behavior to incite disruptions against our campaign objectives (different than healthy debate and disagreement). The goal of the forum guidelines and sub-forum structure has been crafted to best deal with issues of disruptive behavior to the forum community and they can continue to be refined, suggestions are always welcome:

Some people argue that we should quickly ban disruptive users, in some cases it may be justified but in other cases if we banned Dr. Paul supporters who are engaging in postings that are possibly harmful to the campaign they'd just go elsewhere and continue to do the same. So in my view, it is an asset to the campaign for the more wise and politically experienced users to help lead the way.

As Bradley in DC stated so wonderful in his "Supporters taking it to the next level" marquee piece: we are the leaders and ambassadors - we need to act like it.

Accusations of being a troll are highly offensive to me, even when they are not directed at me. Its basically saying "F___ You" except a lot more irritating than that. I have yet to think anyone here is really a troll. Some people are naturally pessimistic and when its linked to Ron Paul then "Oh you must be a troll because you are being negative." Ridiculous! I think people should get a verbal warning or when they call someone a troll and a suspension if it continues. Then, a ban if it continues after that.

I was banned from Free Republic.com recently because I dared disagree with the forum administrator. I mistakenly thought it was a site that encouraged hearty discussion with other conservatives. I was labeled as a Ron Paul troll and summarily had my posting permission revoked. I was no less cordial than others on the site and was not doing the name calling. It's good to be with grown ups here.

I think with all that goes on, it's easy for people to look at others and think that they are trolls. People will base it on things such as, "I have 1,000 posts and this guy/girl has 20, they're probably a troll."

It's hard to tell honestly, but I have complete faith that if a troll ever does come here to start trouble, they will be swiftly dealt with.

I agree. I was a member of politically uncensored.com for over a year and when I started talking about Ron Paul I was banned for being a "troll." It's just so immature!

I've always felt that instead of banning someone the people that have a problem with that person should be adult enough to ignore them... I mean that's what my parents always taught me to do with someone that annoys me...

    Yeah.
how are you ever supposed to get back your posting privileges from those sites?
I certainly would like mine back from Free Republic. Not because I really want to go there often...just because of the principle that they can kick you off for dissent.

That's kinda like what I'm sure the FED's want to do to all of us RP supporters...

I've not been banned from a forum before, but I think if I had I wouldn't want to bother going back to it again... though I'd be pissed to get banned from here!

People who repeatedly exhibit a certain type of behavior eventually must be concluded to be that thing.
