Texas Rep. Ron Paul brings in over $5 million in 3rd quarter

By: CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser

(CNN) - Rep. Ron Paul's Republican presidential campaign brought in over $5 million the past three months.

The third quarter number is up from the $4.5 million the congressman from Texas raised in the quarter lasting from April through June. Paul presidential campaign chairman Jesse Benton confirmed to CNN the new fundraising figure, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Friday is the final day for candidates to fundraise in the third quarter. Final figures must be reported to the Federal Election Commission by October 15.

The fundraising tallies that the campaigns report are important, because in this period, before voters actually start voting in primaries and caucuses, campaign cash figures–along with public opinion polls–are seen as a gauge or barometer of each candidate's popularity and his or her campaign's strength and outreach.

Paul only trailed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the second quarter. Romney raised over $18 million from April through June. Romney will report raising between $11 to $13 million for the third quarter, according to a source with knowledge of Romney's fundraising.

Paul's raised much of his money from so called "money bombs," one or two day rushes of small dollar donations.

Paul, who's making his third bid for the White House, has been spending the money he's raising. Unlike most of the other candidates in the hunt for the GOP presidential nomination, Paul has gone up four times this year with paid ad buys on broadcast and cable television.

Ron Paul raised $5 million in Q3

    By MAGGIE HABERMAN

Ron Paul raised $5 million in the third fundraising quarter, CNN is reporting.

What's especially striking about the amount is that Paul is likely to be the lone candidate to raise more this quarter, which is traditionally a tough one, than he did in the preceding one. Last time, he raised $4.5 million.

It also, depending on what Mitt Romney ultimately reports, may end up being half of what the Massachusetts pol raised.

    Wall Street Journal:

Ron Paul’s Campaign Raises At Least $5 Million in 3rd Quarter

    By Danny Yadron

Rep. Ron Paul’s presidential campaign raised at least $5 million during the past three months, campaign spokesman Gary Johnson told Washington Wire.

The third quarter total is up from $4.5 million in the April through June quarter, and comes as Mr. Paul, who is reprising his 2008 role as the libertarian candidate of the GOP field, has shown a modest rise in national polls.

Friday marks the end of the third quarter, and in the coming days, candidates’ campaigns will release fund-raising totals for the period. The numbers serve as a gauge of a campaign’s strength.

Mr. Paul’s haul, for instance, is less than half of the sum Mitt Romney’s campaign is expected to report, according to news reports. Mr. Paul’s campaign said most of its money came from small donors, who can give again under federal campaign finance limits.

Wow. CNN not only admitted that these were small donations, they admitted he's a Texan.

Strange days indeed, when a firmly established member of the MSM starts acting like their credibility is a concern to them. We must be doing something right.

Unless you count Bachmann and Pawlenty and Huntsman and Romney. Hasn't Perry been up?

From Chuck Todd on MSNBC about an hour ago:

"From what we know, fundraising is down for everyone for the 3rd quarter."

Then I guess you don't know much, Chuckles. Maybe you should read the news... you know, the industry in which you're supposed to be a major player.

we arent done yet! it could be up to 6 million by the end of the day

Here's what we have so far:

    $0.6M - Ames Moneybomb
    $2.0M - Birthday Moneybomb
    $1.2M - Constitution Day Moneybomb
$1.0M - End of Quarter Push

Now, according to my calculations, there are about 70 days in this quarter that haven't been taken up by any online fundraising included into above events.

So, assuming the conservative $10,000/day over 70 days = $0.7M
Or, assuming less conservative $15,000/day over 70 days = $1.05M

    Using the most conservative estimate, the CURRENT total is (incl. the PUSH so far): 0.6M + 2.0M + 1.2M + 1.0M + 0.7M = 5.5M

    Using the less conservative estimate for daily donations, the current total is (incl. PUSH so far): 0.6M + 2.0M + 1.2M + 1.0M + 1.05M = 5.85M

We have a REAL shot today to push this thing over 6 Million! SO PUUUUSHHHH!!!!
