The Neocon Foreign Policy of National Suicide as "The Best Defense"

Ron Paul has been taking a lot of heat, again recently, from neocons and other assorted foreign policy nitwits, for his comments on Palestine's quixotic quest for UN recognition. Yet, once again, the doctor is right and the peanut gallery is wrong.

While there are plenty of moral and religious reasons to re-adopt America's pre-neocon foreign policy, one of the most compelling reasons (one which ought to satisfy even the situational ethics of neocons) for the US to stop attempting to construct its Tower of Babel, "Empire of Liberty," or whatever you wish to call our attempts to use gun barrels as a global distribution system for democracy is because it is bankrupting us, and, much like slaying a hydra, it creates more enemies than it destroys (but, i guess that would be two reasons).

If you'll recall, our current behavior is exactly what led to the demise of our primary Cold War adversary, the Soviet Union, of which Russia is only a remnant. Yet, somehow, we allowed ourselves to be sold the idea that we must rush to "fill the void" that had killed our competitor. So, what have we to fear from ceasing our madness in time to save ourselves from our old foe's fate?

China has been far more "isolationist" (by the neocons' definition) than the Soviet Union ever was, and much moreso than we have been since attempting to fill the extinct USSR's boots, and China has emerged as the leading global economy. And, despite her relative "isolationism," I don’t think any rational person would question the ability of China to defend herself against any and all potential aggressors.

We could do worse than refocusing on rebuilding our own economy and our own national defense, while letting others spread themselves paper thin, by playing globo-cop. Let other nations export their industries and their wealth, while attempting to feed and medicate the world's poor, and employing mercenaries to chase the world's boogeymen away. Let us pull ourselves back from the precipice, and allow any of our willing adversaries to smash themselves against the rocks that have shattered all empires, since the dawn of history.

Let America reclaim her heritage, and rebuild the liberty, industry, and innovation which made her a wealthy nation, envied by the rest of the world. Let us renounce and abandon the planetary policeman policies which have transformed us into the world's most indebted and hated nation. Leave the suicidal empire building to our enemies.

China has learned much of what we've forgotten about economic might and national defense. And, while China has much to learn about liberty, we have much to remember about it.
