Hey. Was talking about Paul's stance on simply leaving every single country we're in and my friends immediately fought back with several arguments that I had trouble debating:
1. We need smaller bases in places like Germany, etc. in order to make sure that the rest of the world knows we're "powerful" and that we have adequate defenses, not to mention the need to gather intelligence in places like Russia just in case something rogue is "brewing".
2. An immediate withdrawal from the middle east would leave a power vacuum that could be filled by a more dangerous power.
3. If all the troops were to come home, what jobs would they find in our current economy?
4. Ending the wars would not help the economy for the above reason.
I simply stated that the world already knows of our military might, therefore it's unnecessary to have to continually remind them. I also stated that the middle east has been unstable and basically up for grabs for decades, therefore leaving would be no different from having gone in.
Can you guys help me with these positions? I don't feel like I'm being specific enough.
