    Exclamation Off Wonkette!!!!!

I have a VERY liberal friend sharing this all over Facebook. I can't watch Paul's video because I'm at work with crappy video and no sound. Can anyone please find me some sort of rebuttal to whatever this is because this is seriously awkward?
    Thanks!

The comments section seriously made me want to vomit. I felt ill because I have no clue what Dr. Paul actually says in the video. It sounds pretty messed up from what I'm reading. They're all making him out to be a total idiot.

Uhm, its wonkette. If they are hating, then what he said is probably correct.

It really doesn't sound like something he's correct on, but I know nothing of Africa either.

    Here's the text:

Ron Paul! He knows what’s wrong with Africa. All the famines, the people dying over there that you may have heard about in the news lately? It’s because Africa is socialist. The whole place! RON PAUL, on Africa: ”All I know is if you look at history and if you compare good medical care and you compare famine, the countries that are more socialistic have more famines. If you look at Africa, they don’t have any free market systems and property rights and they have famines and no medical care.” Elect Ron Paul President of Africa!

We’ll go out on a limb and assume the good doctor is referring to something he half heard about “Somalia,” one of those towns in Africa, and all of the deeply awful famines occurring across the “Horn of Africa,” the county where Somalia is located. Somalia is not actually socialist, though, Ron Paul! Somalia is ruled under a system called “anarchy,” one where there is no actual cohesive federal government or institutions or regulations or security, which is technically speaking the freest market system of them all. That’s weird! Has Somalia realized they aren’t following Ron Paul’s rules?

    Is that not true?

Searched for the quote above. 11 results. Oldest from 2 days ago. All are progressive sites that quote it and do not show the whole video. Here is an example: ht tp://prorev.com/
Notice the ron paul moneybomb ad at the top by the way LOL Actually the first thing that comes up is the wonk-it thing. I wouldn't worry about it. I watched the video. He lays out his position very well. No wonder the liberals are cherry picking that quote and trying to ignore the rest.

I don't know. Is Africa socialist? That's their point of contention. They say it's actually a whole lot of anarchy (referring to Somalia) saying it would be a libertarian paradise.
Gonna have to check hiller's link to see if there's a whole transcript.

Africa sure seems to get a lot of foreign aid, it certainly isn't a free market from what I understand. Somalia is relatively newly "anarchist" it was destroyed partly due to long term intervention by the UN. I'd say give it some time before you judge it. I saw an article not that long ago that it was improving as expected.

American individuals in a free market would have so much more money and resources to help those in need in other parts of the world. The government will only give the appropriated "foreign aid" to tyrants and corporate interests. Government-backed meddling by the American and French corporatist governments has exacerbated (at best) the most heinous atrocities in Africa.

When it comes to taxation and Keynesian spending for foreign aid, the message should be "Keep it so you can give it."

I'm looking for a transcript for you, too...hell i can't even find a Youtube of it...The video is only on wonk-it. It would help if I knew the name of the interviewer.

Oh, and anarchy does not equal libertarianism...

Africa is still suffering largely because of colonialism. Africa is just now getting back on its feet and building democracies and industry takes time. I don't think Ron Paul said the right thing here.

I posted the link about African socialism in his comments. One person had already said she liked him but it was back to the drawing board. I don't know why this little thing would be such a big deal anyway. Is this really the best they can come up with to try and discredit him? Really?

I found another good link for him to peruse after he responded to my comment by saying that what he said fits in with his closeted bigotry and protectionist foreign stances. (This guy was valedictorian of my graduating class btw).
I'm looking for more links like this to back up Dr. Paul's statement.

I would suggest you have your friend prove his point to you (instead of you doing his research for him) as he seems to have you in a loop. You have provided plenty already IMO. And on another note...while I was googling about this, I found this vaguely related story interesting: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/14/wo...4.7116855.html
"What's happened to humanitarian organizations over the years is that a lot of us have become contractors on behalf of the government," said Odo of CARE. "That's sad but true. It compromised our ability to speak up when things went wrong."

Rhodesia is a perfect example of this. From breadbasket of southern Africa to the impoverished, hyperinflation hellhole that Zimbabwe is today.

And while the US was fighting the "Dominoe Effect" in Vietnam we concurrently supported the UN sanctions against Rhodesia and supported the communist invaders.

Oh good grief, the guy's whipped out the damn newsletters and the Civil Rights Act crap of Rand's. Going off on a racist/property rights tangent. *sigh* This guy is the liberalist of liberals. I only wanted to counter the article he posted so others wouldn't be swayed by it. But he's gone off on this $#@! now.
