Obama Calls for Extension of Federal Gas Tax

President Obama called on Congress Wednesday to pass a transportation funding bill that includes an extension of the federal gas tax, claiming the move would protect about 1 million jobs.

At issue is the renewal of a transportation spending bill that expires Sept. 30. The president, speaking in the Rose Garden, said a failure to pass the bill by that date would result in the government losing needed money and construction workers losing needed jobs.


"That's just not acceptable. It's inexcusable," he said.

Every time I hear someone complain about high gas prices, I try to let them know that a chunk of the ppg is state and federal taxes.

exactly. how much of the money goes to actually fixing roads. I would like to know.

Our roads in Reno Nevada (Washoe County) are horrible and we pay an extra 10c a gallon to fix that. The road repairs never get done.....money goes
away somewhere else or they just take what would have been for the roads and spend it elsewhere. The roads in our neighboring counties have no
added tax and are in better shape....Hmmmmm. So screw the added tax it only makes things worse
