Ron's views are clearly more inline with the Mormon religion than Romney.

I was kind of surprised that Newt did so well but I was thinking prior to the debate that other candidates would begin using Ron's talking points and people would foolishly fall for it. If you do not know Newts record of expanding government I can see how people can be fooled. He even mentioned some the big government corporatist programs he created like "welfare reform". But I guess it that sounded good to the ignorant.
I can tell you for certain is simply because he is mormon. They will organize and do whatever they can for one of their own. In 2008, at the WV state GOP convention on Feb. 5, I went as a delegate from my county to vote in the convention. My county only has 3 delegate slots (it's really small), so the other two spots were filled by Romney supporters, a father and son team. I knew both of them, and the dad was debating me fiercly, trying to get me to change my vote, while the son simply sat there on his phone, texting or playing games throughout the whole convention. I was excited to hear the speakers and talk with all the supporters, as well as shake hands with Dr. Paul himself. However, it was obvious to me that the two mormons beside me were only there because there was a fellow mormon in the race. The son didn't even care. He was just there because he was told to, and he didn't care in the least. Nobody I know has such control over their children that they can just do that and their kids will blindly obey. We have a little bit of free choice, but it was definitely a mormon thing.

All I can say is, this year, I will have all 3 delegate spots in my county filled with Ron Paul supporters if I can help it. Those mormons aren't going to hijack my county this time.

Give them the right material and they may decide to be Ron Paul supporters. Last night I was fixing some plumbing when a fellow Mormon called me to congratulate me that Ron Paul got second in the straw poll. I hadn't known, being busy getting soaked with sewage, how it had turned out, so that was the first I heard. He was a Romney supporter, but I gave him a "For Liberty" DVD a few weeks ago and now he likes Ron Paul a lot. Here's the funny thing: he still likes Romney too! So he says "now there's two guys I like in the race".

Mormons are encouraged to vote for people of high character and integrity, and the For Liberty video emphasises his honesty and consistency, as well as the honesty and genuineness of his grassroots. So it seems to be a good outreach tool to Mormons.

Mormons in general are very patriotic and constitutional and allies in the movement. I would hope that as Romney fades we would pick up many of their votes! Of course we need to keep reaching out for Bachmann's votes also as the MSM spins Perry as 'our' leader. Everyone is going to get a good dose of media manipulation before this is all over. We will either really wake up this cycle or get BushIII or BushIV depending on how you count BHO.

Hmm, generally I have overlooked this. I could see how this is a really valuable perspective. Perhaps we should focus more there.
