Hearing Senate to vote this pm on Libya (Rand Paul) and ethanol (Coburn)

Anything we can do? - shouldn't we be calling and demanding they vote?

We can make this the official "post your senators' votes" thread.

Call and email. At least let them know there was support.

Dang. What is the official name of Rand's amendment?

    --

ok, this can be used for reference, from Rand's web page:

Sen. Rand Paul introduced a sense of the Senate resolution to bill S.493, which quotes President Obama’s own words as a candidate in 2007 where he stated that: “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.” The measure aims to put the Senate on record affirming Congress as the body with Constitutional authority on matters of war.

I posted this at daily paul. Here is the text of the email I wrote my Senators in case someone wants a quick form. I was trying to persuade them that no matter how you feel about engagement in this instance, their duty is to follow the Constitution:

I am outraged over the manner in which the administration bombed Libya without a Congressional authorization as clearly required by our Constitution and by the War Powers act. I understand Senator Paul has introduced a resolution which is coming up for a vote whether it will be tabled today, and I would like you to vote against tabling it, and for passing it.

"Sen. "

All Senators took an oath to defend the Constitution and regardless of opinion as to what foreign policy measures should be taken, ALL Senators should defend the Constitutional prerogative that Congress, not the President, is the proper body to declare war.

    Thank you,
I will now hit the phones.

Well, at least there is a roll call, so we can call them out, and should do so.

We really need to make sure they know we know how they voted. I bet there will be as many not voting as think they can get away of it. So much for protecting and defending the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.

Way to go Sessions and Moran. Sessions I expected.

Ayotte and Rubio vote to table it. What a shock.

Collins no. Snow also. Gutsier than Ayotte. Who is 'Crey-po?' Good for him, whoever he is. Boo!! He changed it!!!

Sounds like Johnson voted with Rand. (the Johnson of SD didn't though) Tooney w/ Rand.

    De Mint with Rand.

Ensign with Rand (he was pissed about Res 85 as well.)

They're voting right now. How does McCain know that the amendment will be tabled? Has he tallied the votes?

No doubt he twisted many of those arms personally.

I hope the majority of Republicans at least vote for it.

You mean against it. ie: vote NAY to table the motion.
I hate to dash your hopes, but it appears that it will only be a couple voting with Rand.

  14. #12
    I think Sessions voted no.

Yeah, you're right. The GOP is hopeless.

    Yup, but almost nobody else.

Look at Rubio and Mccain voting with the Democrats.

Obama loses anyway. He can't be happy that his own words were rejected by the Senate.

*I assume Lee, but didn't hear.

Crepo(sp?) --Wait are there 2 of these? Because they just listed a Crepo as Aye also, maybe he changed it.

hah, watching McCain scamper over to chat with John Kerry. "Don't worry John, we'll kill this pissant's attempt to shake things up."
"Your mother's dead, before long I'll be dead, and you...and your brother and your sister and all of her children, all of us dead, all of us..rotting in the ground. It's the family name that lives on. It's all that lives on. Not your personal glory, not your honor, but family." - Tywin Lannister

LOL at all the Democrats voting against Obama's own words!

  25. #22
    Johnson of Wisconsin - no.

  26. #23
I think it's great Rand did this. We know who are potential allies in foreign policy.

  27. #24
I have no idea what gets into Coburn sometimes. I know what's wrong with Inhofe, but Coburn shows such promise--for such brief periods.
