During Iraq war, Bush had left borders open that allowed many of our mexican or other southern neighbors to walk in to US to fill the manpower need as global war on terror had a fast track to citizenship program for those who joined the military. With Libya shock n awe just starting, could Obama be following Bush's steps? This could mean, US would be a hispanic/latino majority nation sooner than projected 2050.

On the plus side, they are our fellow Christian bothers and sisters. Many would rather have Christian majority than a hardcore sharia rule.

Perhaps that is why they increased the number of border agents?

U.S. deported record number of illegal immigrants

For the second year in a row, the government deported more illegal immigrants during the last fiscal year than ever before, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement figures.
    And immigration is declining:

.A new study shows that fewer undocumented immigrants are arriving in the United States and that many others continue to leave in large numbers because of the economy and increased enforcement.

Seems the Sherrif is trying to use it as a political issue- it does play well in Arizona. I beliece the sherrif is up for re-election next year and wants to be considered "tough on crime". Local crime rate is below the national average.

From an Arizona Newspaper- the Arizona Republic:

Violence is not up on Arizona border
Mexico crime flares, but here, only flickers

NOGALES, Ariz. - Assistant Police Chief Roy Bermudez shakes his head and smiles when he hears politicians and pundits declaring that Mexican cartel violence is overrunning his Arizona border town.

"We have not, thank God, witnessed any spillover violence from Mexico," Bermudez says emphatically. "You can look at the crime stats. I think Nogales, Arizona, is one of the safest places to live in all of America."

Even Sherrif Dever agrees that it is over-hyped.
Clarence Dupnik, the sheriff of Pima County, said there always has been crime associated with smuggling in southern Arizona, but today's rhetoric does not seem to jibe with reality.

"This is a media-created event," Dupnik said. "I hear politicians on TV saying the border has gotten worse. Well, the fact of the matter is that the border has never been more secure."

Even Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever, among the most strident critics of federal enforcement, concedes that notions of cartel mayhem are exaggerated. "We're not seeing the multiple killings, beheadings and shootouts that are going on on the other side," he said.
