Baghdad, Iraq Wants U.S. to Pay $1 Billion For Damage to City

Iraq's capital wants the United States to apologize and pay $1 billion for the damage done to the city not by bombs but by blast walls and Humvees since the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.

The city's government issued its demands in a statement on Wednesday that said Baghdad's infrastructure and aesthetics have been seriously damaged by the American military.

"The U.S. forces changed this beautiful city to a camp in an ugly and destructive way, which reflected deliberate ignorance and carelessness about the simplest forms of public taste," the statement said.

"Due to the huge damage, leading to a loss the Baghdad municipality cannot afford...we demand the American side apologize to Baghdad's people and pay back these expenses."

The statement made no mention of damage caused by bombing.

Colin Powell has called on the CIA and Pentagon to explain why they failed to notify him of unreliability of a key source who claimed knowledge of Saddam Hussein's bio-weapons capability, reports The Guardian.

U.S. secretary of state during the Iraq invasion, Powell said U.S. agencies involved in compiling case for the war should be questioned in response to the newspaper's revelation that the source, Rafid Ahmed al-Janabi or "Curveball" as his handlers called him, admitted to fabricating evidence of Iraq's secret weapons of mass destruction program.

"It has been known for several years that the source called Curveball was totally unreliable," Powell told the Guardian . "The question should be put to the CIA and the DIA as to why this wasn't known before the false information was put into the NIE sent to Congress, the president's state of the union address and my 5 February presentation to the UN."

The US should give Iraq our Embassy, call it even and get the hell out of dodge. When Iraq has it's revolution like Egypt, we'll abandon the embassy anyway.

It's a win win situation for the US. If the state department is insistent on keeping an embassy in Iraq, we could rent a couple thousand sq ft. for cheap!!! Month to month of course, since sooner or later, they're going to kick us out of their country. Unless we want to go to war again?

Not that we need another reason to leave, but now would be a good time to get out of Dodge.
Out of every one hundred men they send us, ten should not even be here. Eighty will do nothing but serve as targets for the enemy. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, upon them depends our success in battle. But one, ah the one, he is a real warrior, and he will bring the others back from battle alive.

I posted on another thread Iraq ambassador, Jeff Jefferys stated if the US military/contractors leave Iraq will collapse and be taken over by Iran. Then he added the assessment of crude oil production... could reach 9-10 Million Barrels a day and may even exceed Saudi Arabia. When asked for Iraq to payback America with Oil money, Jefferys stated, Not a Chance.
