    Origin of the name Barack

Some interesting trivia...maybe well known, maybe not.

Anyone ever see the old movie Exodus? It is interesting in that the name of one of the main characters was Barak:

Barak (Lee J. Cobb), who heads the mainstream Jewish Agency trying to create a Jewish state through political and diplomatic means.

    More history on the name:

Barak (English pronunciation: /ˈbɛəræk/ or /ˈbɛərək/[1]; Hebrew: בָּרָק‎‎, Tiberian: Bārāq, "Lightning; Shine"), Al-Burāq (Arabic: البُراق‎ al-Burāq "lightning") the son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, was a military general in the Book of Judges in the Bible. He was the commander of the army of Deborah, the prophetess and heroine of the Hebrew Bible. Barak and Deborah are credited with defeating the Canaanite armies led by Sisera, who for twenty years had oppressed the Israelites.

I wonder if that has been updated (rewritten) since the premiere of our current President? (edit: Stupid question, as it references him!)

People are influenced by names. The name Barack would be a positive in more than one ethnic community.

Yes, and my name means "honeybee."

It's obvious I intend to enslave most of you, bed a few of you, and require undying devotion as I laze about producing more bees for my hive
Genuine, willful, aggressive ignorance is the one sure way to tick me off. I wish I could say you were trolling. I know better, and it's just sad.
