State Dept tells students at Columbia to not talk about Wikileaks if they want a job

Some people need to get fired over this.
if modern agriculture continues to follow the path it's on now, it's finished. The food-growing situation may seem to be in good shape today, but that's just an illusion based on the current availability of petroleum fuels. All the wheat, corn, and other crops that are produced on big American farms may be alive and growing, but they're not products of real nature or real agriculture. They're manufactured rather than grown. The earth isn't producing those things.. petroleum is! -Masanobu Fukuoka

For just mentioning it on their Facebook pages? Isn't that discrimination, and a violation of the First Amendment, and all kinds of other $#@!?

I'm under the assumption that they could be fired for viewing that sort of material w/o the 'proper' security clearance. Not sure as to whether this issue is specific to facebook pages, the feds can probably check email accounts and/or monitor employees page views/search logs. That could be a stretch but I don't think they're playing around on this one, especially since the bankers are weighing in on their govt puppets right about now.

^Yeah, that's bad, but the unique thing about this Columbia story is that they don't even want students to mention Wikileaks! Doesn't matter if they saw the documents or not!

This is about as close to a thought crime as you can get.

Can public school teachers get fired for liking Wikileaks on Facebook? I hope it won't ruin my career.

Probably not, unless you were thinking of working in the Dept of Education or something.

Columbia probably has a ton of kids who go into the Foreign Service Office, and is working to minimize the chances they burn themselves. Doesn't surprise me at all.

The big name schools are pros at turning out high-paid bureaucrats.
"Your mother's dead, before long I'll be dead, and you...and your brother and your sister and all of her children, all of us dead, all of us..rotting in the ground. It's the family name that lives on. It's all that lives on. Not your personal glory, not your honor, but family." - Tywin Lannister
