    Really? Qatar?

FIFA's executive committee choose Qatar over the U.S., Australia, Japan and South Korea in a secret vote Thursday.

Gotta love the first moments after an event to check the Wikipedia edits:

It was announced on the 2nd December 2010 by FIFA, that Qatar will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. .

It is generally believed that a desert is a great place for a World Cup during the Summer....

    Who the $#@! is Qatar?

LOL. Should be an interesting World Cup in Qatar.

I'm not too fussed about England losing 2018. We're already spending a lot of money on the Olympics in 2012. No need to go further into debt

some have made the argument that this was about bringing football to a new region - as if football in the middle east isn't already there. such a tiny nation that will test fifa's eligibility rules in the coming years - it makes no sense. Korea, Japan, S Africa, Mexico and the US each had a certain amount of football credibility prior to being awarded the hosting.

Qatar is ranked 113th in the world!

we know it's tiny (this has it's advantages for football fans that don't want to fly from Seattle to LA to watch their team), we know it's $#@!ing hot, but it's closer for Europe and most of Asia and time zone friendly. but awarding the US the cup should have been a no-brainer for fifa and the delegates - it was our (CONCACAF) turn, not Asia.

the awarding of the World Cup to Qatar was a statement about the US economic outlook as well as our foreign policy

very sadly for this soccer fan, this illustrates how the rest of the world views us.

there would have been games here in Soccer City USA had the hosting rights gone our way.

Sounds good to me. Middle East needs some love.
if modern agriculture continues to follow the path it's on now, it's finished. The food-growing situation may seem to be in good shape today, but that's just an illusion based on the current availability of petroleum fuels. All the wheat, corn, and other crops that are produced on big American farms may be alive and growing, but they're not products of real nature or real agriculture. They're manufactured rather than grown. The earth isn't producing those things.. petroleum is! -Masanobu Fukuoka
