American presidential candidate jailed for anti-war speech

he was jailed under the Wilsonian espionage act of 1917, an act still on the books. and an act Michelle Bachman wants to strengthen (Freedom watch 11/30)

Obama seems to be moving much faster lately, faster than even Dubya, to restrict liberty

I'm surprised they haven't come after Ron Paul yet.
"When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system's game. The establishment will irritate you - pull your beard, flick your face - to make you fight, because once they've got you violent then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don't know how to handle is non-violence and humor. "

    Eugene V. Debs

In the early part of his political career, Debs was a member of the Democratic Party of the United States. He was elected as a Democrat to the Indiana General Assembly in 1884.

not defending his politics, except his positions against Wilson's war and draft

but I do defend his right to free speech. I would not want Bernie Sanders or Barnie Frank arrested for speaking either

Not yet. Too much political turmoil in the country, and some elements of liberty poking its head through the storm.

Not dead yet. Thirty years left at this rate would be my guess.
