What about the elected officials' salaries? This doesn't affect those, does it?

It's a move in the right direction, but shouldn't be the stopping point. $28,000,000,000 is peanuts compared to the total size of the budget and deficit. Not to mention it doesn't cut any present spending, but only future potential spending. That's not enough. More must be done.

Still, this shows that we are controlling the topics of debate and discussion. Onward and upward with the spending cuts!

It isn't a raise - it's an attempt to forstall. Rand also wanted a 10% cut in pay. Meanwhile obama's wimpy freeze still allows cola raises and step raises.

This will go along nicely with his "non-defense discretionary spending" freeze; clearly freezing budgetary items as they are now, in the midst of the largest budget deficit of all time, will stop the rapid expansion of the national debt.
