    Utah's United Freedom Conference

Ann Turner | The New American
    20 September 2010

The first Utah United Freedom Conference was held on September 18th, at the Radisson Hotel in Salt Lake City. The national sponsors of the event were The John Birch Society, Freedom 21, and the National Center for Constitutional Studies. Additionally, there were approximately 33 local sponsors including The John Birch Society, Utah Eagle Forum, Utah Farm Bureau, and the Utah Cattlemen's Association, as well as several 9/12 groups and others. The conference event was held through the day and was attended by 375 participants. Morning sessions featured four speakers including Karen Budd-Falen, former Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management in the Reagan Administration. Budd-Falen currently serves as legal counsel to the Arizona\New Mexico Coalition of Counties for Stable Economic Growth. She addressed the audience on Legal Extortion by “Due Process,” The Ruby Pipeline, and WWP Story.

Speaker Dan Byfield, who served as president of the American Land Foundation from 1994-2009 and is currently CEO of the merged association Americans Stewards of Liberty, represented landowner's interests in New Mexico, Texas, and Washington D.C. He spoke of the little known “Co ordination” clause and explained how Co ordination is local control in a talke entitled: "Protecting Private Property and Local Communities."

The next speaker, Dr. Michael Coffman, has a PhD in Ecosystems Analysis and Climate Change Influences from the University of Idaho. Dr. Coffman played a key role in stopping the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity from being ratified. He is the author of four books on environmentalism, property rights and geopolitics and has been on C-Span on several occasions. Dr. Coffman’s topic was “Why America is so Deeply Divided.”

The concluding speaker for the morning session was Steven Pratt, who has a Masters Degree in Education and did postgraduate work at the University of California at Berkley. He is working with the Center for Constitutional Studies and worked under the late W. Cleon Skousen. Mr. Pratt spoke on “State Sovereignty, the Original Concept.”

Throughout the afternoon there were three breakout sessions featuring 13 different classes — all of which were focused on issues concerning constitutional government and individual liberties. Booths in the hall represented several of the participating organizations. The John Birch Society, for example, was present with two booths featuring books, magazines and DVDs to help inform the participants. Attendees found a wealth of additional knowledge and tools to help with their organizations

The evenings event concluded with Speakers Rep. Carl Wimmer (“Working to pass the Nullification Act to Obama-care in the Utah State Legislature.”) and Sharron Angle, (U.S. Senate Candidate, Nevada).

More than a few participants indicated that the event gave them renewed determination and feelings of hope for America.

The Article falsely accuses the JBS of being "cranks, racists, and conspiracy freakazoids." These accusations are completely false.

There was a time when openly associating with the cranks, racists, and conspiracy freakazoids of the John Birch Society would have spelled instant disaster for a politician’s career.

But in today’s climate of right wing extremism, the John Birch Society has not only been re-legitimized, it’s been welcomed back into the Republican fold.

This weekend the JBS held an event in Utah, and the featured speaker was none other than Nevada’s GOP nominee for the US Senate, Sharron Angle.

I would like to know what they believe substantiates those claims??

Also, wasn't there some kind of tussle with MSNBC's Tucker Carlson at Ron Paul's liberty rally about JBS leader speaking?? Or was what went down related to Jesse Ventura's speech??

That's pretty cool that she did that.. Any video from the event?
The ultimate minority is the individual. Protect the individual from Democracy and you will protect all groups of individuals
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. - Thomas Jefferson
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Good for Sharron! That makes me feel even better about her.... although I wonder if it was the best move politically? It's great that we have someone like her with a shot at taking Reid down, as opposed to Sue Lowden.. heh.

It would make me feel better about her If I read that she attended the classes:

Her merely attending as a speaker, only slightly makes her "better" in my book.

MSNBC is on a 24/7 smear campaign on Angle... just this morning Joe Scarborough was touting how the GOP would win a Senate majority if it wan't for these kooky radicals like, Angle and O'Donnell. Blah Blah Blah... chummy media and their partners in crime, Aristocratic Empire.

The Establishment Republicans won't like it , but the Tea Party movement generally appreciates the experience and dedication of the JBS.

Ron Paul gave the JBS some love:

Frank, you hear if she attended any of the classes at all?

    Did she say anything non-interventionist?

I hope that Angle at least leans to the non interventionist side. Hopefully we can eventually replace all of the neocons in the Senate.

I learned to totally stop watching any TV media.

Angle certainly is not afraid of controversy. I'm not quite sure how she thinks this would help her, though.

She's a Tea Party supporter, not Republican Establishment.

We need to lobby for one to be added. There have been many times I've wanted to use one.
