Thread: Was "Restore Sanity" rally by Comedy Central libertarians really necessary?

  1. #1

Exclamation Was "Restore Sanity" rally by Comedy Central libertarians really necessary?

While neocon Beck and sanity may have parted ways long time ago, what is really the point of "Restore Sanity" rally being planned by some loud mouth comedy central libertarians?

    Is anyone planning to attend?

Never heard of it until now. What do they intend to do? Criticize Beck and mock Christianity OR hold a true tea party rally?

  4. #3
What do libertarians have to do with this?

I just found out, don't know the detailed agenda of rally yet.

Is Beck a Christian? Did not know that.

Calling Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart "libertarians" is like calling Bush a "conservative."

Remove the second "m" and you will find out what Beck really is.

    Jon Stewart is moderate...

people always think if your a centrist (a left leaning centrist in stewarts case) that means libertarian cause they think of the Political spectrum as one dimensions left right. It's actually two dimensional.

Horizontal axix = Statism vs Anarchism (Structure of Control Conflict)

Vertical Axis = Socialism vs. Capitalism (Resource Distribution Conflict)

Jon Stewart would be towards the middle of that chart slightly falling into Statist Social quadrant but only slightly, he can change his mind if he spent enough time with Ron Paul

John Stewart is a liberal. He is nowhere close to libertarian.

I tend to agree, but they are more libertarians than some of the necons dressed as libertarians. They display libertarian leanings at times though and likely do not hate porn.

That is open to debate, lately some conservatives who are even less closer to libertarian principles claim to be so.

It is possible that he is a left libertarian, but who knows. I like Stewart and Colbert's shows very much, but no, i won't be attending. The whole thing did start though by some people on reddit emailing them and urging them to do this.

lol @ having a rally for people who are apathetic to the entire political process. "Moderate" is basically anybody who is content with how things are run in washington today.

Couple of comedians can restore ablout as much "sanity" as couple of neocons can restore "honor".

Fighting a joke with a joke seems to be the game plan here.

These two are more libertarian than those neocon South Park guys, eh? Throw Ron Paul in there, that social-conservative ass hat...

The South Park guys are actually pretty libertarian, and nowhere near neoconservative.

Anyway, I like things that bash Beck, and I don't live too far from D.C., so I may give it a visit. I also loathe the social issue conservatives, so I may wear a shirt that says "If evolution is real, why do gays exist?"

John Stewart is about as libertarian as Karl Marx.

  31. #27
I have something to say about this point but for fear of getting this discussion tossed in to HT also, I'm going to censor myself.

  32. #28
The creators of South Park are libertarians. Other than that I don't know any other libertarians on Comedy Central.

Honestly, I don't think there will be many libertarians there at all. The Coffee Party Movement has embraced this, so I think it'll be pretty liberal.

Truth to that, he leans left but doesn't always tow the lefty line on everything. He is no libertarian that is for sure.

This stuff is simply meant to make fun of anyone who DARES get politically active and thinks the country is in bad shape. It's meant to silence dissent and to make people embarrassed or ashamed to take a politically active role in restoring their freedoms.

An entire rally just to mock people. He is a real class act. F Jon Stewart.
