Question for North Dakota Residents

I know this forum is inactive, but if we have anyone from ND I would like to know about the state.

Could you describe the climate, gun laws, taxes, religious denominations, and anything else the might interest someone considering the state?

Bump! I'd also like to know how North Dakotan RPF'ers like the state. I've been curious about ND for a while now, probably because so comparatively few people live there.

I realize it might take awhile to get a response as ND isn't overpopulated like here in New Jers...I mean North Carolina...

Well the climate for starters is one of two extremes really. The winters are often long, harsh, and brutal. The high temps in january are sometimes in the -20s or -30s even. We do get a good deal of snow too, but I don't mind the snow per se, its the bitterly cold temps mixed with strong winds that are the killer. So cold it hurts! lol Its very windy here too, both in the summer and winter. Fargo should be the windy city, not Chicago.

Summer climate is very mild and can range from 70s to 90s and above. The killer in the summer is the high humidity that makes you feel sticky and generally awful. Snowfall in May isn't even that shocking to people here and in March we usually have one last blizzard that puts everything at a stand still. The one brightside is that 95% of the people here know how to drive on snow-filled icy roads so accidents aren't as common as you'd expect. You also get to experience the full range of seasons up here if you like that sort of thing.

Thanks for the response. I realize ND isn't exactly a widely desirable state to move to and that's what appeals to me.

ND has the worst weather in the lower 48. It's the safest part of the nation outside of Northern New England. Communism and socialism have been a noticeable part of the culture for 100 years though I guess some people their are also socially conservative because Republicans running for President often do ok there. ND is full of dying towns and even countries where most of the work is agriculture or government related and houses are very inexpensive. Though, there are some cities doing pretty well there that have very low unemployment compared to most of the country.

Please keep us posted if you move there. If you are just looking for more liberty, I'd highly recommend New Hampshire or even South Dakota. SD is like ND but with better weather, mountains and a lot more liberty.

Outside of Rapid City and the Blackhills area South Dakota is pretty bland. I don't think SD has more liberty than ND. Ron Paul also did much better in ND, actually I think we got him the most delegates out of any other state

I live in ND, Ask away lol.

ND is a bastion of Ron Paul fans. College towns are the only cities. The farmers and ranchers have been RP fans since they were born and never knew it. We need to organize. We all hate social media here so its all footwork.

I love reading these stories, because I'm completely clueless about ND and other nearby states. Everything I know about the Upper-Midwest, I learned from listening to Prairie Home Companion. Needless to say, this thread has been a real eye-opener so far!
