Thread: Do RPFers take Pat Robertson seriously?

  1. #1

Question Do RPFers take Pat Robertson seriously?

My mother does. I personally think the guy is a $#@!in quack who gets whatever he wants out of the bible and cons viewers into buying his worthless books and such.

edit: I meant to write Jack Van Impe in the heading, sorry. (Pat Robertson is a quack too, tho)

I admire the charity work and other things Pat has done through the 700 Club, but I really wish he would stay the heck out of politics and stop trying to goad his deluded "flock" into hijacking the Republican party and filling it with Neocons, Theocons, and rabid Zionists. He and Falwell are two of the biggest reasons the GOP has been so FUBAR for the last thirty years or so.

    Lol no.
The ultimate minority is the individual. Protect the individual from Democracy and you will protect all groups of individuals
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. - Thomas Jefferson
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I haven't got nearly as big a problem with Jack Van Impe as I have with Pat Robertson, because at least he has the decency to stay out of politics the way religious leaders used to.

Van Impe shows how a misunterpretation of eschatology (dispensational premillinialism) will make you a complete fruitcake.

Van Impe, LaHaye, and Hal Lindsey are nuts who have misread and missapplied the Word.

I think Pat Robertson represents a serious threat to our freedoms. It doesn't matter if I don't take him seriously or not. He has millions of viewers who do. When he goes around saying things like "Maybe we should assassinate Hugo Chavez" and "Forced abortion in China is ok, but we must end abortion by choice in the U.S." (well not in the same breath, but you get the point) and folks still watch him that worries me.

Van Impe? From what I can see he's harmless. I disagree strongly with much of his interpretation of prophecy (occasionally he gets it right though), but as far as I know he's not the leader of any political movement like Pat Robertson is or was. I put Van Impe in the same category as our own "weatherbill", except (as far as I know) Van Impe doesn't claim to be a prophet, only to be able to understand prophecy that already exists.

But you were asking if any of us "believe" Van Impe? As much as I believe weatherbill.

Pat Robertson is not insane. He's a power hungry manipulator that knows exactly what he is doing.

Seriously? Yes, this RPFer does, but only in the sense of the deceitfulness of their mixed message.

Mixing earthly and heavenly kingdom stuff as they do is dangerous, deceitful, and goes against the message of Christianity.

Christians are not of this world. Live or die, a Christian wins. How radical, how extreme.

Christians want to shrug off physical/earthly fear, and instead concentrate on doing the right and loving thing, not the "safe" thing.

"Duty is ours, results are God's"

God does not take lightly the actions of "leaders" who promote fear, and in doing so promote evil earthly "solutions" to a physical threat.

From what I’ve seen, a good amount of their message contains physical fear.

Nope. He wants to impose a cap and tax system for supposed man-made global warming.

I think like many pastors they started out probably with pure intentions, but because of society pressures or fame or some force outside the faith, began preaching bull. You can only do that for so long, until you start believing it.

It won't take very long to get them home but it won't be overnight either but Iraq says they can't stay and they are coming home just like Trump said.

Tell them to check out John MacArthur or R.C. Sproul. They stay fairly well out of politics.

Much better than most of the TV preachers/televangelists.
