Police discover 20 large-scale cannabis factories in Britain every day

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti....html?ITO=1490

Criminal gangs are now producing so much cannabis in Britain’s suburban streets that there is a ‘market for export’.

Police say the gangs have taken over cinemas, houses, pubs, banks and shops left empty because of the recession.

Almost 7,000 cannabis factories were discovered last year - more than double the
    number found two years ago.

There are now almost 20 commercial cannabis factories being found by police every day, taking the total for 2009/10 to 6,886 – more than double the 3,032 discovered
    two years ago.

It is more than eight times the annual average between 2004 and 2007.

More than 1.3million plants worth an estimated £150million were recovered in the past two years.

Last year alone, police seized almost 750,000 plants with an estimated yield of £85million, compared with more than 500,000 plants worth £65million the year before

Running a cannabis farm would lead to the criminal charge of producing a Class B drug – punishable with up to 14 years in jail.

14 years for growing plants? What is the penalty for growing tomatoes? For brewing or selling beer?

Despite the unjustified loss of freedom, it's good to show the establishment that despite their best efforts, the free market persists.

    Those numbers are insane!
“The Bible says that the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous. It is high time that we have top Christian businessmen, businesswomen, bankers, you know, who are men and women of integrity, running the economics of our nations. That’s what we are waiting for. - Pastor Thomas Muthee (Palin personal friend), Wasilla Assembly of God (2005)

It's called supply and demand. And the government will always lose to the free market.

When will people realize that "the war on drugs" has about as much validity as prohibition?

Maybe we could sponsor National Turn Yourself in Day and inundate the legal system with cases. What if 1% of the population were to walk into a police station holding a plant, all on the same day. :P
Insanity should be defined as trusting the government to solve a problem they caused in the first place. Please do not go insane!

Let em export to a country

where it is legal. Maybe the sterling would regain value.

I like the most popular comment on that article:

Enough with this rubbish , it's a plant!!
In generations to come, I hope people will look back at this time and think how silly we were to ban, of all the dangerous things in the world, PLANTS.

Our problem in Britain is that we have a government-run healthcare system, so everything becomes a matter for the government. Smoking causes lung cancer? That'll cost the NHS! Alcohol causes liver disease? That'll cost the NHS! Falling on the floor? That'll cost the NHS! Driving without a seatbelt? That'll cost the NHS! And so on.
