CNN Poll: 49% of Americans support repealing birthright citizenship

As leading Republicans signal support for rescinding the Constitutional guarantee of US citizenship to those born in America, a new CNN poll finds that 49 percent of the American public would favor doing so.

I guess Rand's stance on ending birthright citizenship isn't so radical after all. Seems to be pretty mainstream. Even John Kyl and Lindsey Graham are on board and McConnell wants to look into it. Funny how you barely heard anything about this issue in the national discussion until Rand brought it up a few months ago. Rand is a trendsetter!

EDIT: Epic pointed out a Rasmussen survey back in June showed 58% of "Likely US voters" supported repealing birthright citizenship

I also bet that better than 60% in Kentucky support it.

51 percent still oppose it but i would bet many people don't even know what it is and would be more open to it after learning more about it.

i still think that a repeal isn't necessary if we just send some troops to the border and/or build a wall, while eliminating benefits for illegal immigrants(and everyone else).

The WaPo guy was freaked and lecturing everyone about not letting Rand (as one example ) pollute their minds. I have no idea where those people have been the last 10 years. It sure isn't new with Rand. A bill on this had 90 sponsors in the House last year.

wouldn't they still need approval from 3/4 of states legislatures? if that were the case it probably wouldn't happen until after 2010, maybe even 2012. The dems made some major gains last election cycle.

That poll is remarkably low; Rasmussen found 58/33 back in June (58% wanted to revoke birthright citizenship). http://www.rasmussenreports.com/publ...gal_immigrants

Rasmussen also found that 64% in Arizona were opposed to birthright citizenship for illegals.

Wow, thanks. Difference between that poll and CNN poll could be that Rasmussen surved "likely US voters", CNN poll surveyed "Americans".

Yes, remarkably. I'd be willing to bet even the Rasmussen poll is on the low side.

Yes the only surveys that Democrats lead on issues is when they survey "National Adults". They tie on "Registered Voters" and lose on "Likely Voters".
