Thread: Time to quit flying

Prior to 9-11, I used to fly a lot for business, and occasionally for pleasure. I mean a lot- like I had frequent flyer cards for 3 airlines, and got plenty of "freebies" out of them (used to love Southwest- easy to get free flights and free drinks on their FF program).

After 9-11, I started to avoid flying like it was the bubonic plague. Just too much bull shit involved. If possible, I drove (even if it was an 8-10 hour drive), if not, I'd let someone else do that job.

As time went by, my attitude about flying got worse. I haven't flown anywhere since 2007. Even when it came to the campaign for Liberty kickoff, I drove from Texas to Minnesota (I never knew the central part of the USA was nothing but corn- corn from Kansas all the way to central MN- there's something wrong with that).

Free of flying for 3 years now. Don't miss it a bit.

I went through one of those scanners here in Tampa once.

I was fully prepared the first time to refuse because my wife and I were just picking up my neice and I didn't really have to go into the terminal so I was ready to refuse and walk away. But they sent me through the regular scanner.

Unfortunately the second time we went we were in a hurry and the plane was literally waiting on us and my wife was already pissed off at the travel agent for taking so long with our ticket, so I didn't say anything when they told me to go through the body scanner.

All I said was. "Is this that scanner that violates every extent of your privacy?" His response was..."yep, pretty much".

You ain't missing a farkin thing.

Not only has it become the equivalent of crossing Checkpoint Charlie (from the bad side) just to get into the terminal, most of those "freebies" have dried up as well.

It's a hot, sweaty, cramped, uncomfortable number of hours on the Greyhound bus with wings, complete with piss stench from the crappers.

Best solution is to get your own plane and do the flying yourself.
