Lightbulb City of San Jose, CA Finally Outsourcing ~$100K Cost Government Janitor Jobs to Clean

Yeah, finally the city realizing their government employees at the bottom are too costly.

Mayor Chuck Reed was interviewed on FOX BUSINESS
"...under San Jose's "living wage" policy. The bottom line, officials say, is that the city custodians cost an average $40.41 an hour, plus paid time off of 17%. = ~ $100K cost for each janitor, to city to clean City Hall and the Airport." The costs increase even higher for those working overtime and holidays.

I still find it hypocritical of the "Upper Government Employees" running up deficits for NINE STRAIGHTS YEARS and spending $100's of millions on a new city hall, etc etc etc... now decide to cut janitors. This year they face a $118 Million deficit. There's your California government running full blown socialist spending.

"I just can't sleep at night wondering what I'm going to do," said custodian Gilberto Robles, 42, as he protested the job cuts outside the airport. Robles took the job 13 years ago after working as a shipping clerk to "make a better life for my kids." Now, he must find a way to support those four children and pay a $2,200 monthly mortgage.
BTW... This is the same city that pays retired fireman an average $124K per year pension at age 50 and above plus benefits.

If that's not enough... the newly built SJ city hall complex started at a projected cost to taxpayers of $212 million... final cost to 30 year City Hall Bond: $750 MILLION

That is so true and sad. The "Free Market" under control of the manipulators doesn't pay well. End the damn FED already!

I know YumYum is trolling to show everyone as evil republican drones. But what is more evil taxing people to pay Alberto outrageous wages or Alberto getting paid what he is worth?

I'll clean their floors and bathrooms for $40 an hour plus benefits (it does not say but that cost may include benefits).

I never contested Gilberto's outrageous wages. How much do you want to bet that the company that is awarded the contract has illegal aliens?

Not much because I think that is a high possibility. However whats that got to do with immorality of paying high wages and you making it sound like capitalism is bad?

I feel that capitalism puts us all on the same playing level. Everything levels out in time.

Yes it does. Which kinda makes me wonder why do you make it sound so damn unattractive to be for capitalism.

Having been born there, and still having relatives in the area, if you don't get paid six figures at the very least you will be living in a studio apartment on the bad side of town along with several roommates. If the city wants public employees who aren't total deadbeats who can't find another job, they'll have to pay in the range of $100K, even for custodial work.

Doubt it. Post a job add for a 100 k salary on custodial work and see how many thousands of resumes they get. Overpaid, plain and simple.
