Paul: Congress shouldn't micromanage Afghan war
By KRISTIN M. HALL - Associated Press Writer LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul said Congress shouldn't micromanage the war in Afghanistan and should leave the decisions on troop levels to the White House.

Paul spoke Saturday in Lexington at a Fayette County GOP picnic mostly about his conservative fiscal positions that have drawn him strong Tea Party support.

He said voters on the campaign trail were most concerned about the national debt and the economy and they weren't asking him much about the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He told The Associated Press that long winded debates over the number of troops in Afghanistan is not the proper role of Congress, but he has some questions about the number of Afghan security forces after nearly nine years of war. "
