    Chicken Egg Incubator Construction

I am beginning to research dependable techniques used to turn chicken eggs in an incubator.

Any info or quality links about incubators and turners would be much appreciated...

    Thanks!

I was able to get a lot of information from this site when building my coop:

    Thanks,that was a good link...

Do you any personal experience w/ turning eggs in an incubator? The info I found so far says turn eggs 2x a day and be sure to clearly mark eggs on one end. (to not make a mistake while turning a large group of eggs)

I see there are some expensive models that automatically flip eggs but my group is doing the construction ourselves. Any ideas for a clever way to flip instead of a hand?

I've always turned them by hand 1/4 of a turn twice a day.

I've always just used the simple polystyrene incubator too. Every egg that I've put into that thing has always hatched too. It's not a big job to turn them by hand. I have been warned about washing eggs and handling them too much though. The eggs have to be able to breathe and if they get too much oil on them, they won't be able to.

I bought my chicks for 50 cents each. Seems a lot easier.

We are going to build two prototypes, one w/ solar power and one kerosene. Here is a link to a PDF w/ a ton of information about the process.
