Thread: non-intervention improvements?

    non-intervention improvements?

I'd like to hear some opinions on how to optimize Non-Intervention.com.

I'm going to post a few articles, and wondering where you guys think good places to pick up some new readers might be.

    Thanks!

    Here's the RSS: http://non-intervention.com/feed/

I've set up a link to a random Scheuer article

Here's the code to a feedburner widget:

    HTML Code:
    <p style="margin-top:10px; margin-bottom:0; padding-bottom:0; text-align:center; line-height:0"><a target="_blank" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/http/non-interventioncom/feed/~6/1"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/http/non-interventioncom/feed.1.gif" alt="Non-Intervention.com" style="border:0"></a></p><p style="margin-top:5px; padding-top:0; font-size:x-small; text-align:center"><a href="http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/headlineanimator/install?id=t37qphb1iiml7055201eb9f2cc&amp;w=1" onclick="window.open(this.href, 'haHowto', 'width=520,height=600,toolbar=no,address=no,resizable=yes,scrollbars'); return false" target="_blank">&uarr; Grab this Headline Animator</a></p>
And this will show parts of the articles and titles:
    HTML Code:
    <script src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/http/non-interventioncom/feed?format=sigpro" type="text/javascript" ></script><noscript><p>Subscribe to RSS headline updates from: <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/http/non-interventioncom/feed"></a><br/>Powered by FeedBurner</p> </noscript>

I would strongly recommend starting a video blog. That will open a vast readership on Youtube, Facebook, and other social networking sites, and open up a huge viewership of people who don't really like to read but would gladly watch a video. I would also think that Michael is very strong in front of the camera and his presentation will give force and life to any article.

I would gladly volunteer to edit the videos if need be.

Is this different from simply including youtube embeds in a standard blog? They could then be categorized or tagged. Or are you suggesting a separate feed?

Right now, email subscribers see 'New Article' in the subject line of the email, A separate feed would allow subscribing to just one or the other, and emails could be customized to say 'new video', or new podcast.

Also you can subscribe to the comments with the IntenseDebate plugin.

I'm trying to digg his latest article, but it's timing out. I wonder if it's possible JustHost (the hosting provider) blocks digg? I read support for a different host that restricts digg usage on the shared hosting plan.

If anyone could try to post it to digg I'd appreciate that.

digg gives me this: "There was a problem with the URL you tried to submit: Connection timed out"

Also timed out for me when trying to click the little Digg icon to put it up on Digg.

    "Time Out"
"Your mother's dead, before long I'll be dead, and you...and your brother and your sister and all of her children, all of us dead, all of us..rotting in the ground. It's the family name that lives on. It's all that lives on. Not your personal glory, not your honor, but family." - Tywin Lannister

K thanks. I can digg from other sites I have on this host. So I finally tried digging another link. Same timeout Apparently problem with digg.

I put a link to a random post on the site. http://non-intervention.com/random/ It works with a wordpress plugin called Redirection. There's an option for 'action' I set to 'redirect to url' and put /random/ in the box. That caused www.non-intervention.com/random/ to work, but I had to add another one for /random so that the trailing slash isn't necessary.

Twitter seemed important enough as a subscription option, but another thing to post to would just be a pain. So I made a twitter account http://www.twitter.com/nonintervention and added a Wordpress plugin called WP to Twitter. This automatically sends an update to twitter when a new article is posted.

There are many ways to then show twitter updates on the page, or on other pages. I was using the aether twitter plugin and it was nice, but with the setup on non-intervention it just posted new articles, which wasn't really necessary. It would be a good solution for people who use twitter as a primary updater. More ways to display twitter tweets in wordpress: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/334006

I did get the digg to work eventually, don't know why digg was blocking it but I contacted them and they opened it up.
