GOP Wins first Special Election House Seat since 2001 in Obama's Old District!

    Just call him Congressman.

Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou, R, collected about 40 percent of the vote as he defeated two Democrats and won the seat vacated by Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D, who is running for governor. This marks Republicans’ first special House election victory since 2001. It also has a symbolic significance, obviously.

Djou won’t have such an easy time winning the seat again in November, when he will have to square off against just one Democrat. But he cannot be counted out entirely.

I don't know where any of those candidates stood on the issues, but the election is of little importance.

It's only to fill a seat for a few months until the next election.

In the real election, there will NOT be a pile of Democrats (2 major and some minor) splitting the Dem vote. The Republican "won," but got less than 40% of the vote. He will likely get about the same percentage in the fall, and will be crushed 60-40.

Count on seeing this seat go back to the Dem column next year- it's about as certain as the sun rising.
