    Lysander Spooner

Working from two hard to define photos I tried to capture him in a portrait. Still a lot of work to do...

Don't know if I will pull it off... we'll see..

    Here is my progress

    Gorgeous!!
“If you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.” -CS Lewis

The use of force to impose morality is itself immoral, and generosity with others' money is still theft.

If our society were a forum, congress would be the illiterate troll that somehow got a hold of the only ban hammer.

I see the photo, where's your stick figure?

    j/k ... it looks amazing
Truth forever on the scaffold, Wrong forever on the throne,--
Yet that scaffold sways the future, and, behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above his own.

    Excellent work.

Are those the only 2 photos that exist, or just the only 2 you used?

I don't know. I've seen 2, a left facing one and a right facing one. But I thought if you were researching for this you might have found out what exists out there of him.

It's like the 19th century's greatest philosopher, proto-epic beard man, and American badass extraordinaire is in the room with me right now.

So potent and magnificent I feel like if I printed it out and hung a copy on my wall, it would shield me from tyranny and repel statism while I sleep!

    Santa=Lysander Spooner?

He did own a mail company so maybe that's how kids got their gifts in 1844. It sucks that Santa was forced to use the nationalized service afterwards..

That is indeed an epic print.
"Resolve to serve no more, and you are at once freed. what do you think about spooners membership in the 'first international'?

The International Workingmen's Association (IWA) (1864–1876), sometimes called the First International, was an international organization which aimed at uniting a variety of different left-wing socialist, communist and anarchist political groups and trade union organizations that were based on the working class and class struggle. It was founded in 1864 in a workmen's meeting held in Saint Martin's Hall, London. Its first congress was held in 1866 in Geneva.

Jefferson owned slaves and advocated public education, Bastiat believed in the labor theory of value...

The overwhelming majority of work from all of them is positive.

It does not bother me. Also from wikipedia:

At its founding, the International Workingmen's Association was an alliance of people from diverse groups, including French Mutualists, Blanquists, English Owenites, Italian republicans, such American proponents of individualist anarchism as Stephen Pearl Andrews and William B. Greene...Due to the wide variety of philosophies present in the First International, there was conflict from the start. The first objections to Marx's came from the Mutualists who opposed communism and statism.
Spooner was wrong about wage labor, as were several other individualist anarchist. This group is mostly labor, not socialism as a whole.

I consider myself a libertarian, not an anarchist, and there are several things I don't quite agree with him on, but his overall "portfolio" is a pretty big net positive.

Hey Awake, did you ever get an uploadable finished product? Don't get me wrong; I know gifted artists should never be rushed, but I'm so excited to see how it turned out!
