The texas revolutionaries and their bureaucratic "independence" represent a classic coup that capitalized on broad, diffuse opposition to one government, and claimed ownership over said sentiment to institute their very own new tyranny, bankrupt it and sell it to the U.S. for pennies on the dollar.
I have mixed feelings about the whole deal...
