Good find . . . but -
Re : "1. Haley Barbour, Mississippi Governor . . ."
Haley Barbour I had heard mentioned around before . . . NO THANKS.
Mississippi is hardly any sort of model state . . . correct me please if more recent data is much better -
I think Mississippi is a mess.
In 2004, Mississippi had the lowest personal income per capita among the 50 states ($24,518 per resident).
Among the 50 states, Mississippi has the highest percentage of its total population living in poverty (21.3%)
and the highest percentage of children under 18 living in poverty (30.9%)
In 2005, Mississippi ranked 48th among the 50 states in the percentage of its adults
aged 25 to 64 with at least high school diploma (81.3%).
Mississippi residents have the second highest rate among states for
death from cardiovascular complications for 2000 to 2002 (410 of 100,000) –
-much higher than the national average of 333 per 100,000 residents (Centers for Disease Control)
Mississippi had the 4th highest incarceration rate per capita in 2004
The rate of incarceration in Mississippi has increased substantially during the decade.
You mean, "Who will be the next fascist nanny-state candidate who gets his own Fox News talk show?"
Pawlenty is certainly trying to be. It was just recently he started getting vocal about his faith.
MNGOP Senate District 41 Chairman
This underscores one of the most frustrating things about the religious right.
There are a LOT of Christians who look twice at Huckabee only because he's a crappy 2nd-stringer of what they believe, and the other choices aren't even close.
If we could brand the liberty candidates as being much more in tune with the beliefs of the liturgical/confessional/orthodox crowd (they generally are, IMO) then it would matter a lot less what "the South" has to say on the matter.
It never ceases to amaze me that they've managed to get Catholics to vote for people who would have burned crosses in their yards 100 years ago.
There are no crimes against people.
There are only crimes against the state.
And the state will never, ever choose to hold accountable its agents, because a thing can not commit a crime against itself.
The simple fact that Bailout Bob Corker is even mentioned in the mix shows what a pitiful lot of losers they have to pick from.
Sleazy Beltway lobbyist for President? No thanks.
The thing with the Huckabee types is they do very well with the base but they have very little cross over appeal with the other 70-75% of Americans.
