    Any professors here?

I am reading and hearing about how much students are going into debt.
I see how much the government and banks are pushing loans and grants.

But I also here from others I know how hard it is to become an associate professor, let alone tenured. Adjunct (part timer) seems easier, but the pay is nowhere near as good.

Where is all the money going?

I'm no professor, but I do work in a University (not for a university, for a private research company). That money goes toward buildings and an ever expanding administration. That's it.

True - my alma mater (Virginia Tech) has probably built 10 new buildings in the last 5 years, all of which are multi-million dollar projects....and they are making sure the president and board of directors are well-compensated.

I am a tenure-track assistant professor in Pennsylvania. I believe a lot of money goes for administrative activities and a host of newly created offices and special programs like accomodative services, remedial learning centers, etc. The percentage of money that actually goes to the professors is probably significantly less than 50%. This is conjecture, however.

For the libertarian club at my school, we get the school to give us thousands of dollars to bring in speakers and go on trips.
