Rand Paul spikes in polls, spikes in fundraising

Today: 6442, with a spike of money coming right when the polls were released

Was there a money bomb I didn't know about?

I think these are actually Kentucky voters, undecided about his appeal at first, now sure he has a chance donating money. I like it!

Well he needs 30K more to match Grayson's Q3 fundraising of 640K.

Paul has raised 610 so far this quarter.

Do people expect Grayson's fundraising to be up or down?

I would say down...way down, but that's pure speculation on my part.

    Q2

Grayson's second quarter fundraising was about 600K, but that was done in only two months not three.

He has proved he able to consistently raise big bucks, and he may be more motivated to raise in quarter four since Paul was so formidable last quarter in quarter three.

There's just too many unknown factors...

If the establishment is planning to ride him all the way to the finish line, it'd behoove them to pour all their money into him and make him look good this quarter. Remember, he's been getting a lot of his money from NRSC fundraisers, PACs, etc, and there's still a lot he could raise. But I think that without the machine, he really doesn't have a lot of his own sources to go on.

On the other hand, if they are pondering another candidate, they might've held back a bit to see how he does.

Ultimately, we just can't say... we need to continue to raise as much as possible to ensure we beat him again this quarter.

It sounded like "they" had a secret plan.

If Grayson only raises 300K then his candidacy will be in doubt.

That would be really low for him.

It's definitely a good educated guess that Grayson's 3Q fund raising will be way down.

    1) He has fewer donors to go back to for more money, and more of the ones he has are tapped out.
    2) The available polling indicates that his level of support has gone down, while Rand's has gone up.
    3) The kinds of people donating to Grayson are mostly not people who strongly want to support him personally, but rather they want to support the party by supporting its eventual nominee. The more questionable it becomes that Grayson's nomination is a foregone conclusion, the more these donors will want to sit on their money to wait and see if he proves himself likely to win the primary before they waste money on him. Even though there are some Grayson supporters who desperately want Rand to lose, there are others who will gladly donate to Rand for the general election once he's the nominee.

I have one friend who gave $100 to Grayson before he knew about Paul. He's now going to give at least $100 to Paul to offset his first mistake. That may be rare, but I suspect he's not the only one.
