Does anyone honestly think that since they have been caught red handed that they are going to fold up their chairs and go home? Hell no! First rule of being a dictator; never let them see you sweat.
I'm sure they'll have many other contingency plans to scare us with something else to fund their world dictatorship.

You are correct, and since they could pull off a hoax as big as this one you can bloody well expect the next movement to be based on a global external threat that is tied to an extinction level crisis.
If the end is world government than any means is open - you need world crisis to do it.
