V for Vendetta ... saw it tonight first time and speechless

Buddy Rey turned me on to this movie tonight. I had not seen it before, but knew "remember, remember the 5th of November" when we had that hugh Paul money bomb.

But you must watch this movie if you have not. It will keep you rivoted to the screen, and leave you in tears at the end. A terrific movie that I wonder how the director knew in advance years ago what the stage would be like today.

Please watch the movie if you have not yet done so, and post your feelings here. Don't leave me crying alone...

The director based it off of a graphic novel of the same name. I've heard that is even more powerful than the movie.

I'll have to take a look. I am still speechless... I remember when we did the big 11/5 money bomb; I was so proud and the media was relating it to the movie. But being a 1/2 sheeple at the time, I never knew what it meant.

The movie is very powerful, to me at least. If you are like me, and have not seen it until now; please do.

    Loved the movie.
Why can't everybody else leave everybody else alone?

I thought the movie was an improvement over the graphic novel. Alan Moore, the guy who penned V for Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Watchmen, is...well....Google "Alan Moore". The Wachowski Bros. are definitely more interested in what is occurring in the world right now. (even if they do tend to lean toward socialism)

The big improvement, in my opinion, was the Evey Hammond character who in the graphic novel starts out as a homeless naive 16 year-old prostitute. And I actually gained respect for Natalie Portman because of this role.

Alan Moore and the Wachowski Brothers (they penned the screenplay) knew there would be distinct similarities because they are aware of history. This story of an "up and coming politician" has occurred multiple times throughout recorded history. "V" simply puts it in modern (21st century) terms.

One of my favorite movies. Glad you finally saw it.

I liked how the prime minister/president was the same actor as in 1984 but there he played the opposit(sp) role.

And of course since it was made to be anti-Thaster(sp) also helped.

As for the "The Island", which one are you talkings about?

I didn't like that the "good guys" actually win in the movie. It is too utopian for my tastes. In reality, the police state would not have been erased that easily.

Really? It was one of the few movies that to me had something important to say.

Welcome to the Guido Fawkes club

" Voilŕ! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

"The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V. "

Me, too. Notice how Hollywood just has to slip in some questionable agenda into the plot. Even IF the scene of the girl realizing at a young age she's a lesbian is in the book, why include it in the movie? Because certain powers want to promote the idea that homosexuality is a genetic predisposition which can not be changed... The latter concept is nonsense regardless of the venting of some so-called experts.

If a viewer watches Hollywood's tactics long enough, the viewer will see this kind of propaganda peppered throughout almost every movie. Just watch background activity closely, too. The viewer will see subtle and not so subtle propaganda in nearly EVERY movie largely unrelated to the plot. The agenda could be promoting homosexuality, global warming, the UN, etc. Sickening...

Or it could simply be a matter of remaining faithful to the original work. You're reading a lot into this, IMHO.

The message of that and the other gay character was never "being gay is genetic" it was "being gay is not a crime." Even if one believes homosexuality to be a choice (and the logical extension of this would be that heterosexuality too is chosen), would this mean that the choice to be gay is any less valid or acceptable than it would be if it was a physiological compulsion?

Make it a point to watch The Matrix as well, if you haven't already.

I can't believe no one has suggested Idiocracy. It shows where we're headed if we stay brainless and apathetic.
if modern agriculture continues to follow the path it's on now, it's finished. The food-growing situation may seem to be in good shape today, but that's just an illusion based on the current availability of petroleum fuels. All the wheat, corn, and other crops that are produced on big American farms may be alive and growing, but they're not products of real nature or real agriculture. They're manufactured rather than grown. The earth isn't producing those things.. petroleum is! -Masanobu Fukuoka

Okay, I gotta jump in - if anyone is going to watch Serenity, you will definitely want to watch at least a few episodes of Firefly, which was the (tragically) short-lived TV series for which Serenity is the movie sequel. The movie will make a lot more sense if you watch the TV episodes first...

You (or anybody) should download or Netflix Torchwood's latest. It was the best television I've seen in a long time.
