I don't see anything bad with this. He is our president after all, why wouldn't we listen to what he has to say. Doesn't mean we'll believe him. And it gives us one more opportunity to discuss issues with our kids when they get back from school.
Plenty of politicians give speeches at schools, and I believe it helps stir debate rather than stifle it.
In fact, one discussion we can have with our kids is whether they think this broadcast is constitutional or not, and why.
The White House has also provided a list of questions to discuss with your children before, during and after the speech. Here is one of the questions for PreK-6.
Why is it important that we listen to the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?
